OT - Women Wednesday

Is size important to you?

Most of us carry a purse. What size do you prefer? A small one that holds only the necessities? Medium, because you need more room? Large, so you can throw in a book? Extra-large because you carry your nice shoes for work? Or are you toting a shoulder suitcase?

Frankly, I've never understood women who carry SEVERAL bags. Looks like they're on their way to the airport for a week-long vacation! I'm a minimalist and prefer to carry a fairly small purse. Just enough to hold money, license, a credit/debit card, compact, lip balm , and cell phone. Oh, and a scrunchie in case I need to wear my hair up. When we travel, I carry a shoulder bag to accommodate more items AND to have room to throw in small purchases.

I found a list of the top 26 items women "need" in their purses. Some of them are quite surprising (IMO)!

  1. Feminine products
  2. Phone charger
  3. Hair ties
  4. Gum
  5. Hand sanitizer
  6. Perfume/lotion
  7. Loose change
  8. Painkillers
  9. A mirror
  10. Hairbrush/comb
  11. Pepper spray
  12. Lip balm
  13. Tide-to-go pen
  14. A granola bar (I carry a protein bar)
  15. Birth control pills/condoms
  16. Tweezers
  17. Eye drops
  18. Clean pair of underwear (what are you doing?!)
  19. Tissues
  20. Dental floss
  21. Nail polish
  22. A sewing kit
  23. A flask (now we're talking)!
  24. Old movie tickets (huh???)
  25. Batteries
  26. Corkscrew (this should be MUCH higner on the list!)

Some I find a little ridiculous. I bolded the ones I carry in my travel purse (surprisingly few). Which of these do you think are necessary?

I carry a small backpack... LMAO

I keep in said backpack:

  • A change of gym clothes
  • My glock (Sometimes in my glovebox if somewhere that doesn't allow)
  • pens and pencils
  • A sketchbook
  • Sticky Notes
  • Wallet
  • Wt wipes
  • Deodorant
  • Keys
  • Spare Change
  • protein bar
  • water bottle
  • first aid kit
  • headphones
  • Small knife

TBH I'm probably WAY over-prepared for a few things. LMAO

I'm in Commiefornia so G19 has to stay home, plus my county is not CC-friendly. Jealous!

LMAO! Commiefornia...

I'm grateful mine is! Plus my permit is good for 5 years!!!

-wallet
-small bag with lipsticks, mirror, hair ties, bobby pins
-another bag that has deodorant, body spray, wet wipes, meds, hand lotion, feminine products, nail file, pens and a few small mementos.
- then throughout my purse is gum, work badge, ear buds, deck of cards.

However on the weekends I usually switch over to a small wristlet or even a fanny pack depending on what I am doing. Then I usually just carry money/card, license, lip balm, phone, keys.

Depends what I'm doing. If I'm shopping or sightseeing, I'll carry a small purse that goes cross-body. It will only contain my wallet, glasses, powder compact, lipstick, some candy and tissues.

If I'm at work, I'll carry a bigger bag that can hold all of the above, plus my makeup bag, a book or magazine and maybe my lunch bag.

This takes me back to when I was younger and carried a humongous purse. I mean, how could I go out and about without a FULL can of hairspray? Without ALL of my makeup?

A full can of hairspray?!?! Shok

I have ALWAYS been a minimalist. My biggest "going out" purse was never bigger than a standard novel. And not the newer ones that are taller and screw up the bookshelf.

Hey, it was the '80s. Funny thing was, I never really used the hairspray, after the initial spraying. But, I had it with me, just in case!

Woman, I spent the latter half of the 80s in dance clubs! Then again, my hair was darn near waterproof before I went out... LOL

My curling iron was black from the pound of hairspray I sprayed on each section before I curled it, then backcombed it, then sprayed it again!

I carry a larger purse that goes in my trunk and in that large purse is a small purse that holds my credit card, lipstick, and phone. I walk around with the small purse but  pull out the larger purse for things like meetings and sitting at kid events. My larger purse has a notebook, pen, checkbook, novel, nail care mini set, powder, gum, miscellaneous cards like Costco card and library card, mirror.

I have a purse-within-a-purse! The outer one is kind of like a tote. The inner purse is the same color/fabric as the inside of the tote. That tote is what I carry when we travel. Smile

DH got me a high-end purse at my fav consignment store when he went with to drop off some donations. He was stoked ($40 vs. $300 new, we looked online) and so was I! It's big, and I'd been using a tiny purse before that just so I couldn't cram it full. Normal list of items, in no particular order:

  • Pacifica & Burts Bees lip shades
  • Sunglasses
  • Business cards
  • Wallet & checkbook
  • Ear plugs
  • USB cable
  • USB flash drive, 2 GB
  • Knife
  • Pepperspray
  • Coupons
  • Reminder notes to myself!

I carry a very small purse. It holds my wallet, but i use a RFID proctor to hold cc and debit cards, my cell phone, lip balm, cough candies, a pen, change. I have a little cloth case for a pantie liner and a couple of OB tampoons. When I throw my keys in it makes it bulge.

It's a Coach brand and I have a couple of the same sized purse in different colours. I hate a big purse, it just accumlates stuff that I never need. Even if I do need it I can never find anything in a big purse.

SD(29) carries a purse inside another purse! The little one holds the stuff she really needs and the big one has stuff she thinks she might need or someone else might need. BM carries a suitcase! She likes being the one you can turn to if you need anything. SD takes after her.

SD once said well what if you need a pill or a kleenex or a notepad or any of a hundred other litttle things. I said, I'll just ask you for it. LOL.

DH cannot believe the things I manage to fit in my tiny purse. However, I excel at efficiently "packing" my purse - no wasted space!
