The light at the end of tunnel
I never updated my blog to say what happened with YSS19. The blog on noisy gaming brought everything back up for me. At the time that things were changing (about this time last year) I was still too exhausted and depressed to share.
About this time last year, I'd hit rock bottom with step life. I couldn't take living with YSS anymore. All of the issues will be familiar to everyone here.
- Inability to aim or flush the toilet
- All night noisy gaming sessions (we live in an apartment so there is NO escape)
- Food remains left everywhere
- Hour long showers (urgh)
- Inability to stick with a job
- Outright rude behaviour and disrespect towards me
Taken individually these don't seem so bad but all together it is like having to live with the worst room mate ever when you had never wanted a room mate in the first place. In addition, my DH lost his job so I was responsible for the household.
I told DH that I couldn't take it anymore and that I was going to have to leave. He asked me not to go and said he'd take care of things.
He sat down with YSS and explained tht at 19 it was time for him to live with people his own age. Literally a couple of weeks later, YSS had moved out. We have to subsidise his rent but that is a price I'm willing to pay. My mental health is priceless and YSS had me drowning in a black depression.
YSS is a little annoyed with me but that's cool. He realises that his dad would have given him longer to launch.
Hilariously, YSS complains about his room mates bad habits. Can you guess what they are?
- Toilet habits
- Late night noise
- Food everywhere
- No washing up
If he hadn't been exhibiting all the same behaviours, he'd be still living with us in one of the best parts of our city.
All in all everything is 1000% better and my depression has receeded.

That is a great way to
That is a great way to describe my SS15.... are you sure we don't have the same SS?
Hilarious that he now complains about his room mate, that must have made you laugh so hard.
Is SS going to school or working? What's DHs game plan to not be paying for the apartment for the next 10 years.... But kudos to him for getting him out of your home!
This was a good update and
This was a good update and boy did I need it! I'm glad your DH launched the kid and it's ironic the boy is having to deal with the exact sloppiness he put you through. Perhaps he will learn but I have little hope. I'm glad you've got your home and sanity back.
lintini, I try to stay
lintini, I try to stay reasonably disengaged from the situation but I'm pretty sure YSS has another new job. Something in sales. He's a good looking kid, articulate with good manners. He interviews really well but gets bored easily once he actually has a job. Also if he doesn't succeed immediately he stops trying. This means that he loses jobs as fast as he finds them. DH has promised that he's working on this with YSS but as I said, I'm try to remain disengaged.
I hope we aren't paying for the apartment in 10 years time but I'm ok for the time being. London is expensive; think Manhattan or San Fran. Most people his age live at home if they are from London.
I still have a little inward snigger now and then at the fact that he is complaining about stepping in other peoples urine when he goes to use he toilet. I wouldn't wish this on anyone but for YSS the Karma bus has arrived.
I'm in San Fran.... I totally
I'm in San Fran.... I totally get it.
Love the karma bus!!
AS2, I think that the fact
AS2, I think that the fact that DH didn't really want to live with his adult son was the deciding factor rather than my economic power. Lol more like WOB's situation.
Hugs, that is rotten.
Hugs, that is rotten.
DH has found a new job,
DH has found a new job, thanks. But one word of warning to everyone elses DHs - the closer you get to 60 the harder it gets. He has 2 primary degrees and an MBA but still found it tough.
