SD Chronicles: Where's my present?
5 days with skids begins today.
I just spoke with SD on the phone.
SD: "When will we open our Easter baskets?"
Me: "Put dad on the phone again quick I need to remind him about an appointment."
DH: "What's up?"
Me: "She didn't forget about Easter. I guess I will grab something on my way home."
DH: "Shit. ok, thanks."
And the 'parents' of the year award goes to..........
ME AND DH!

She probably did. We don't
She probably did. We don't celebrate too hard for Easter - figured if they were with BM this year a basket at her house was sufficient. Assumed skids wouldn't even mention it.
I guess SD still believes the bunny hopped its ass 30 minutes north and dropped something off at our place, too.
Whoops!
I would have responded
I would have responded totally differently. Bunny goes to the house where they are for Easter. If mom effs that up, that's on her.
How old is this SD???

This exactly.

My response too.
My response too.
I get along with my
I get along with my skids.
It'll be a $5 dinky basket. DH can hit me back later. I am not going to make that into something big... I am out, he's home with them.
I got my skids a couple of
I got my skids a couple of small baskets. I "accidentally" bought too much candy. Now I have to eat some of it too.
We got SS this little $7
We got SS this little $7 thing for his phone (had an amazon gift card with a few bucks on it so figured why not) DH told him consider it an "Easter gift." SD probably overhead.
I love to steal their candy, too. They both left pillowcases of Halloween candy from BM's at my house for an entire week. I ate EVERY reeses cup in each bag.
She is beyond spoiled.
She is beyond spoiled. Sometimes the only thing we can do is throw gifts at her and hope she shuts up.
Just kidding.
Sort of.
That's cute. I plan to grab
That's cute. I plan to grab something very small.
Last year they got decent sized baskets when they woke up at our place. Books, candy, art supplies, a jump rope, etc.
A stuffed animal and piece of candy is sufficient on the "off" years.
The good thing is all the
The good thing is all the candy is now on SALE. lol.
We didn't ever do anything for the girls for easter but my DH's mom used to get all the kids huge baskets every year.. so we figured.. we were off the hook!
Yeah. I get torn on this
Yeah. I get torn on this because the "two of everything" syndrome drives me crazy and can most definitely lead to entitled, spoiled kids...and NCPs are technically paying for these things twice. But I can also see how NCP dads would want to do stuff for kids around the holidays and their birthdays. I mean, otherwise his contribution to the gifts is invisible...unless the BM specifically says the present is from both parents, which I doubt many do.
Of course, early on our BM was always wanting to "plan" Christmas and birthdays with us...would send us lists of things the kids would love...and would often ask if we wanted to "pitch in" or "half" some larger present. One year, she wanted to get YSD a new daybed and wondered if we wanted to split the cost with her as our present to YSD. Uh...Bish, no. 1.) We already pitch on on everything you do for skids through CS, and 2.) We already bought one bed for YSD for OUR home. No way we're going to buy a second one by giving you $$$ to get YSD a bed for Christmas...a bed that she will open at your house and keep at your house...while we have nothing for her over here. Dad's contributions are already invisible enough without that nonsense. As you can tell, the request kind of blew my mind. Mostly, I think the "gift planning" was just another way for BM to exert control and establish this sense of her as the primary parent. aka only SHE can really know what the kids want and need...DH probably doesn't have any ideas of his own.
Now that we're not paying CS for 2 of the 3, the gift-giving and extras don't cause me nearly as much resentment...now that we're more in control of the outflow. This year, we mailed each skid a $10 egg-shaped Starbucks gift card for Easter. Simple and cheap...just to let them know we were thinking about them.
that happened to me. My ex
that happened to me. My ex husband got nothing at all. He gives them back to me on Easter morning and they were so sad and said the Easter bunny didn't come. But they were super little then and I said, "Oh but today is Easter so the bunny comes tonight!" and I went and got mark downed candy after midnight and had them baskets by the morning
AJ - you are going to regret
AJ - you are going to regret this in the long run.... next time do not remind DH and do not tell him if BM got them anything or not, skids where not with you on Easter thus no Easter Egg's...
Simply disengage ......
but at least you bought it after easter lol - guess it was already marked down?
