O/T I'm only a SM?

I haven’t been blogging lately simply because the only issues I’ve been having have already been blogged about (my resident Skids being major turds). Things haven’t changed in the slightest on that front.

School started for me on Monday…I’m extremely happy to be back in class & out of the house! I’m in a Freshmen Interest Group (FIG) for those going into the medical field which means that 3 of my classes are with the same group of people.

There are 5 other women who were “SAHM’s” & they are all in their 30’s (like myself)…apparently however, I don’t fit in with them because I’m “only a step-mom”. I’m not taking it too personally…the woman who said it reminds me of “trailer park trash”. I don’t think the other women even gave it a second thought.

I figured I’d share though as I found it a little on the funny side. There is only 1 woman in class that seems to worship her children…all of the others introduced themselves by saying “My name is XXX, I’ve been a SAHM for XX years & I am SOOO happy to be away from my (insert insult) kids!!”.

I’m now in a study group filled with lively humorous 18 year old girls…interesting to say the least!

People dumb enough to say that I am only a step mom (when they are bio's) get the response. "Yeah, that's right...the kids and I met each other before I became there parent, and they know I chose to sign on and help parent them. Unfortunatley you and your kids had no choice and you are just stuck together". Then I give them the "pity" face and role on.

Judgemental bia's, most likely divorced, that said that to you because there ex/baby daddy is most likely with a new women that probably does more for her kids then then she is capable of or interested in doing.

I've heard that before, plenty of times. Atleast you let it roll off your back and took it all with a grain of salt. It's hard not to come back with something smart to say but we all know that you have no idea what it's like to be a stepmom until you are one.

Absolutely! I am trying to make friends in college as I lived abroad for 5 years (England even!!!) & moved to TX only to divorce my now XH & move away from where I was living. GOOD FUN! I'm going for RN (AAS) at a community college too. Not sure about getting my BSN as I would LOVE to get back into the work force ASAP.

I should just say I've got 2 kids as I have them FT. Their BM wants nothing to do with them aside from less than a wk per year...but then I'd have to claim a genetic affiliation with them & my "bad morning because of the SKids" stories wouldn't be nearly as funny. Saying resident step-kids should say everything, but I guess they only hear "step".

Ah well...18 year olds are more fun anyway Biggrin I have gotten a few good giggles over my "kid" study buddies already & it's only been 2 days!
