Am I overreacting???

I posted in one of the forums about our cat saga. My 20 yo stepson moved out of our downstairs apartment (to spend the summer at his mom's-- when he returns to NYC in the fall he plans to get an apartment in Brooklyn, with what money lord knows) last week and left a 6 month old cat behind.

For the last week I have been working nonstop to find a home for the cat-- called every no kill shelter and cat rescue org in the tri-state area. I found a rescue group (referred by our vet, so local) who agreed to take the cat if I had him neutered, tested and vaccinnated. Which I did-- for $500. Cat's getting the surgery right now. (Even that was complicated, because I send my husband with the cat yesterday and the vet thought he was already neutered (no visible testicles) so my husband was like "great!"-- but I quested it because I knew for a fact the cat had not been neutered since ss got him as a tiny kitten from an irresponsible neighbor-- so we went back to the vet.

The cat rescue lady found a potential taker for the cat who wants to see him later today, otherwise she was going to take the cat to an adoption event this weekend and foster it until she found a home.

Last night, my stepson called and said a friend of a friend will take the cat. My husband just said to him, "that's great news!"

I am furious, and feel I've been thrown under the bus and my efforts have been completely disregarded, disrespected.

DH has no idea why I am upset. Cat has a home-- we should all be thrilled.

I am so tired to feeling this way. Thoughts?

I'm sorry! All I can hope for is that the kitty gets a good home and you don't allow anyone to take advantage of your good nature again. Sad

Good intentions etc etc aside .. I'd tell them the cat has a home already AND they can pay you back the $500!

So do you guys think that I'm right to be upset that my dh tossed my plan out the window and embraced his son's plan (without even consulting or asking me)? Or am I being petty and making this about me (which is what DH said this morning)?

So ridiculous that I can't even figure out how to feel at this point-- and have to ask a bunch of strangers-- but my head is spinning... I think this may be the death blow for this marriage.

"I've been thrown under the bus and my efforts have been completely disregarded, disrespected." YES, YES, AND YES.

bronx hun this is causing you way too much stress. i dont know about you, but that is not a hill i'd want to die on... if i were in your shoes, i'll swallow the lump of anger in my throat and take it as a (expensive) lesson in the school of hard knocks. i'd tell DH and SS they're being total douche canoes (teehee i love that expression!) and that's a pretty shitty way to treat you after having extended yourself so much trying to fix a problem they've caused, and i'd also make damn clear that from this moment forward i am D-O-N-E DONE with putting out fires for either one of them.

so sorry u're being treated this way ((hugs)) but i'm glad u did the right thing for the furry critter.
(on a tangent here, u're ss shouldve already had him fixed- if he cant be a responsible owner then he shouldnt have pets!!)

Refer SS's friend to the adoption group, where he/she can pay the fee as any other adoptive person would for the cat. That protects the cat from the same thiong happening again, when the friend can't keep him. Your husband and SS can get on board, and do the RIGHT THING for the cat.
