BM called to talk to the SDs yesterday. She usually calls every couple of days. The SDs usually take the phone in their room to talk, but yesterday, they were watching TV. I was standing in the kitchen, which opens into the living room. SD9 put the phone on speaker phone and was talking to BM. Well actually, she wasn't talking. She was whimpering into the phone, like a little baby. She is very immature acting and likes to baby talk. It is something DH and I have been fighting so hard to break. Well it now makes sense why she does it. This is the conversation I heard:

SD9: makes a bunch of whining noises
BM: Whats a matter with my baby? (in a baby voice)
SD9: My tummy hurts (then starts whining)
BM: Aw my poor whittle baby. I think you are tired (still in baby voice)
SD9 says nothing
BM: SD9 are you tired, baby.
SD9: uh huh
BM: Why don't you lay down and take a nappy then?
SD9: Okay mommy

I am not kidding you. The whole time she was talking to her in a baby voice. The child is 9 years old!!! No wonder she acts like my three year old. DH came into the kitchen to help me. He watched as SD9 got a blanket from her room and laid down. I hadn't even told him about the conversation. It was 5 O'cock in the evening. He said, "SD9, go put that blanket away and find something to do. You aren't taking a nap this late in the day." Of course, she started crying and whining that she was tired. He told her that she could go to bed early if she is so tired.

And this is why the SDs have no sleep schedule. They sleep until 1 or 2 in the afternoon or take naps at BM's house. Then they stay up all night. We keep them on a bedtime, even during the summer. Unlike BM, we don't want them sleeping all day.

As far as the baby talk goes, I just rolled my eyes. Who talks to their 9 year old like that?
