update on SD cheer squad

DarkStar's picture

So a couple of girls on the cheer squad quit and SD13 got bumped up the list so she made the cheer squad for next year.
I am very very happy for her. No, REALLY, I am, I swear....and it's the only thing that she really cares about and the only activity she has outside of school.
I wonder if she's learned anything from this little life lesson....probably not. Although she has asked SO to put her in dance class at the tune of about $300 a month. She has done dance class before and quit, just like she has quit everything she's ever done in her life (except cheer).
I wouldn't mind if SO put her in dance class, but I think she just wants to do it because her friends are doing it. I really hate how she doesn't have any sense of personal style or taste or stuff that she likes to do, it's whatever her friends are doing at the moment.

HRNYC, you need to meet my SD12. I have no clue where she learned her personal style, the clothes she wears are freaking hideous, do not match in style or color.

As many times as I tried to show her things that cover her belly and are loose, she goes right back to the tight/short shirts that shows every roll.

When we go somewhere and she has her bra straps showing or green sleep pants and a purple top on.....god its embarassing.

OOOH!!!! I truly feel like I'm a member now cuz I got dissed by HRNYC! Woot woot!

I just don't like that she doesn't have any opinions on her own, it's what her friends like. I mean clothes, music, food, activities, sports teams, TV shows, movies, etc etc etc
Example: SO went with her to buy her a bike, she didn't have one. He shows her a couple of those cruiser beach bikes and she makes a sour face, "DAAAAAD, those are UUUUGLYYYYYY!" The next week her BFF shows up with a cruiser beach bike and SD13 asks if it's too late to exchange her bike!

She does get good grades and has been working hard on school. Maybe I'll talk to SO and see what his thoughts are on giving dance another go.

Err, may be a bit off topic but... what kind of dance class is it?

I knew a girl in high school who was like what you described. Gt into a street dancing class (you know, the kind of dancing background dancers in music videos do) and...

Now she's a stripper.

To be more exact, she's a burlesque dancer who strips.

CW - See previous blog. SD13 didn't work on her stretching or jumps or anything outside of cheer practice, despite encouragement from SO and I to do so. Then she doesn't make the cheer squad, but gets bumped up because a couple of girls quit. I'm just wondering if she'll learn anything from this and practice more.
And yes, very true, SO and BM allowed her to quit stuff in the past

Not2sure - She wants to take ballet and lyrical with her friends.

Oh thank goodness. Sorry, when I hear dance classes it just always freaks me out after my friend.

I think kids, and even adults, have a wide range of activities they think they want to do and end up not doing or giving up after a short while just because they wanted to try it or there's some incentive, like being with their friends, in it.

I know I bought so much yarn and a pair of nice knitting needles since my best friend knits every winter... I got through a scarf and gave up.

Same with my paint sets... and the fruit drying machine.... and the bread maker...

hey at least she has friends..My Sd17 doesnt have any friends at all. And the 'boyfriend' she has has been to my house about 5 times in the last 6 months. She has maybe left the house with him twice.

Freaking weird....but then again SD17 is on the weird side so its not surprising
