Glorious hand stitched highly detailed and embellished quilt made by the loving hands of my brand spanking new mil. <3

Beautiful! The homemade is the best especially being welcomed by your mil like that! Beautiful!

Yes, it's just stunning. She's a professional at it. Every stitch is by hand, even the part that goes through the batting to attach one side to the other. All of that stitching is in beautiful patterns and designs. Not to mention all the embroidery on the embellishments. It made me cry. Then it made all my girlfriends cry!

I like the duet story, that's very nice!
DHs Dad married us and he didn't tell us that MIL would be reading a poem at our wedding, we were surprised. It was a poem about her new daughter (me)
Those duets and poems are the best!

Oh geez! This is a sore subject with me.

Only 1 PERSON (DH's sister) got us a wedding gift/card. Well his other sister got us a card and she helped coordinate the wedding so that was enough of a gift.

Friends and family from all walks of life- NO GIFTS! (DH's side)
Like WTF DH did you send out some email prior to our wedding stating "No gifts please!"

Not even cards! I was sooooooo looking forward to reading all of the cards. Nope. Not even cards!

Now my family was awesome of course.

I used some of the money we got to buy this beautiful table that I have in the family room. It's my favorite thing.

A lot of gifts we got were off my registry. Love them all.

Money went towards getting a new van. Well not new, but new to us.

I did have an AMAZING bridal shower too and I got a lot of nice gifts from that.

But DH's guests- Cheap asses who drank up all our booze and ate our food and didnt even bring a card!

You would think people would have sent cards and gifts when they found out.
I guess I never thought of it with eloping, my mom eloped and she had a similar experience as you with people not really saying much about it.

Just a card or an email wishing us well would have been appreciated.

RIGHT! This is how I felt!

DH and I didn't have a wedding. That was the greatest gift I ever gave myself. Wink

BTW, I'm also very partial to a beautiful silver picture frame sent to us by my brain surgeon. It was the first gift we received. I look at it and think how he really made the whole romance/marriage possible

I received a recipe box full of my new hubby's fav recipes from. . . .you guessed it. . MIL!! This was 1st hubby back in '78.

When he had a tantrum because I was 8.5 months preggers with his child and couldn't sleep because of his night owl habits and blasting bearcat scanners (I was the breadwinner once again and had to go to work the next day) the cops asked me if I was obedient to him. How times have changed!!

Glassslipper's picture

Oh my, those are the years my mother tells me about.

To love, honor, cherish and obey till death do you part!

I'm glad you didn't have to take her with on your trip, I don't think I would want to do that myself either!
I would love to see Jamaica someday!

LOL, That made me laugh.
"Four years later and I have yet to dump his father as part of my evil plot for residency"

If he OSS is being a butt you should say:
"Yea, I was gonna leave right after I got my residency but figured I'd stay forever and make your life hell just for the fun of it"

Just kidding, but it would be funny to see the look on his face!

My MIL put together a beautiful scrapbook photo album of our wedding. She is not in the best of health and is quite elderly, so it was really a lovely gesture.
