OT-average health insurance cost family

herewegoagain's picture

I am wondering how much most people pay for medical insurance. We are paying close to 6K per year and that is having insurance through DHs work, which is a MAJOR corporation...been around over 30+ years, very well known...

Is this just outrageous? Our cost went up more than 30% from last year...

This is for employee+spouse+2

For me and my son it's 500.00 per month for United Health Care, pretty good insurance. 25.00 copay for regular doctor visits, 40.00 copay for specialist.

Cost went up this year, and coverage went down. Go figure. DH is now paying 8K a yr for employee plus family. This is through work, and he works for a small family-run business.

Well, then I think his company is charging way too much...

Had we stayed in the US, insurance would have been about 450 a month w/deductible of one person about 1350 plus family deductible and it was 20/80 after deductible met only for health...

We are getting majorly scr4,()Ed here...unfortunately we used to have two options here before & now only have one option...it does cover just about everything w/15 copayment or less, but w/out insurance a dr visit is only between 25-35USD...

BTW, the "family all the same price starts after emp+spouse+3 or more kids...

BM insurance is emp or emp+family all same rate...she has spouse, 5kids & herself so really doesn't pay anything for his daughter & never uses our insurance...

I carry the coverage on DH and myself. I pay about $410 each month. That is with $30 copay for regular Dr visits, $40 specialist visits, and $10 prescriptions (with a $50 deductible). Ours is through United Health Care.

I carry the insurance and I pay $356 a month, my employer pays about $800 a month in addition to what I pay. We get 2 options....self or family. Family doesn't matter how many people are on your plan it is the same cost. We have like 6 different companies to choose from. I have a $15 copay for regular visits, $20 for specialist, and $5 prescriptions. I also have no deductible.

Does anyone have a completely separate insurance for the skids? If so, how much do you pay?

I am thinking that DH needs to drop her from his insurance and get her other insurance alone...then we could get insurance locally which is only about 200USD (1plusfamily) a month for a family of 4 or so...we just can't do it because since he HAS to be on his insurance because of SD, then if we get additional insurance outside of his work for kiddo and me, then we would end up paying about the same anyway...sigh...

That is about what it was at my last job for the family plan. And ours had gone up abut 30% as well. The cost of having insurance is skyrocketing and becoming so a lot of families can not afford it. My last job was with a small firm (50-75 employees) and we had excellent insurance even if the premiums and co-pays were huge. When I worked for a large nationwide company my premiums were also huge and copays were huge and the coverage was horrible. So sometimes, even though it is a large company, they don't go for the good stuff Sad
