This sucks

We got our latest attorney bill in the mail and a few days before court in April he had subpeonaed for BM's tax returns and bank statements. She still hasn't turned them over. I am not surprised, just frustrated. I just want this to be over. Give us the financials and let us move on! I emailed our lawyer but haven't heard back yet.

SS has cut off DH again. Hasn't spoken to him since court. He is supposed to be out at the end of the month. Who knows.... I want to make plans but our plans will vary based on him coming or not. So I am just stuck.

If he DOESN'T come, DH and I are thinking about going to Iceland in August for a week. Ever since Covid I have been obsessed with pictures and DH is really into the idea now too! So that would be the bonus and I think even DH would be ok with that being the outcome at this point.

Isn't SS21? Like why are you guys buying a grown man a plane ticket? Let the kid go. He's old enough to see his dad if he wants and old enough to not see him if he doesn't want to.

I'm confused.

For you and DH.  Tell SS you are going to be away from July 1 to 30.  He can see you in August if you are free

I have already bought SS's tickets. It's just waiting until the 29th of this month to see if he shows.

It just sucks because if he does come, we won't be able to go to Iceland- DH will take some time off while SS is here (Which I completely get and do see as very important!! ) so that means we wouldn't be able to take another trip this summer. It would just be nice to know and go ahead and start booking our trip if he doesn't show.

Can your attorney obtain copies from the IRS and State tax bureau directly?

It seems odd this would be legal?  Unless it's a divorce proceeding, how is her credit ANY of their business?  Or the judges or attorneys for that matter?  That seems like overreach

Do you have a friend or relative who could take your husband's place if he can't take time off work?

I would never take a trip like that without him in a situation like this. It would be one thing if it was the Navy that kept him from going or it was a joint decision that I was doing a trip with my mom or sister or something, but to plan a trip and exclude him because his son came to visit is just cold. We will just have to wait it out...

When the time is right, go to Iceland.  It is amazing.  I spent two weeks touring the country a few years ago and had the best time.  Here's my advice:

  • Don't do the whale watching trip unless you are really into whales.  Its long, cold and we only "saw" a bump far off in the distance
  • The blue lagoon is amazing.  You have to swim in it.
  • Don't just stay in Reykiavik.  There are other small towns and villages that are worth a visit and there are small hotels and B&Bs across the country.
  • Pack swimming stuff.  Every small village has a geothermal pool and hot tub.  After a day of hiking/treking/activity its a lovely way to get rid of the strains.
  • Depending on how active you want to be I can recommend white water rafting and pony treking.  I did a day long excursion on horseback across the interior that you can't reach by road that was a real highlight for me.
  • If you do decide to do a self drive around the country, don't do what we did.  We hire the smallest 2 wheel drive car not realising that some of the main roads are gravel.  It would have been a breeze in a 4 wheel drive but hairy in places in our 2 door hatchback mini thing (can't remember the brand)
  • Eat the local food only.  Any international brands have to be imported and are extortionate.  The local cuisine is nice except for the fermented shark.
