Slightly OT- The end is near... Suggestions needed

Princess 18 moves into the dorm August 15. With all the lies she's told lately and her pissy attitude- the day cannot come fast enough!

But I'm still pretty much the only mom she's got... and I do love her to death, and I would do anything for her. I've been shopping for her dorm since LAST August, so I have the bedding, towels, kitchen ware, laundry stuff and all cleaning supplies all set. She's taken care of her clothes needs. My parents took care of all of her computer needs.

Her roomie's got the TV, DVD, fridge, microwave...

Her loans take care of school money, her jobs take care of extras. She's got her own car and we are friends with a mechanic who lives in the same town as her university. I also know several other people in that town that she has met over the summer, so she doesn't feel like she'll be all alone.

I ordered a "welcome" basket to be delivered the first week of classes...

Why do I feel like we're forgetting something?

What does the college age kid need these days? What's the ONE thing you would make sure your kid/skid had?

Sounds like you have it pretty much covered. Congrats on the move out. Smile

Sounds like you have everything! I packed a big rubbermaid container full of snacks. It was one of those flat ones that slides under the bed. I packed stuff that was individually wrapped to prevent bugs. Chips, candy, gum, ... stuff like that. Make sure you know where she can go for medical care in case she gets sick. My son's school has a clinic on campus. There is also an urgent care center that takes our insurance. And make sure she has a dentist in town in case of emergency. Of course, we are 600 miles away from my son, so that stuff is really important.

I also sent my son basic school/office supply type stuff. Printer ink and paper, pens, pencils, notebooks....

And she might want some kind of rug for the floor. My son's dorm floor was ugly and cold!

My son's school also lets us put money on a special debit card. He can use the card to pay for laundry, drinks out of the machine, stuff at the bookstore, and even several off campus places like Walmart.

I still send care packages every month or so. *sigh. I wish he were still in kindergarten.

Congratulations!

Do they hav their own bathrooms or is it a community bathroom? Probably will need/want flip flops or shoes for the showers, plus a caddy with all the bath stuff that can be carried back & forth to the community bathroom. (a cute robe wouldn't hurt!) Does she have a cell phone. If not? Then calling cards or a cell phone to encourage calling home. Pepper spray! Medicines. They tend to be expensive, especially if you're a college student on a budget.

Thanks everyone! you have been very helpful!

And to put everyone's mind at ease- she's on birth control (for homonal reasons) and her stupid BM has been giving her condoms since she was ELEVEN. Not that she's ever used them. I believe her when she says it... She's very religious, as is the only boyfriend she has. BM leaves the condoms around her house so she feels like she does "parenting."

Hadn't thought of the whole medicine kit thing. Good idea!
