It isn't allergies, sd has pneumonia

libbie's picture

The school called this morning and said sd was having chest pain and a fever. Dh took her back to the dr and they think she has pneumonia so she is at the ER with dh. I did a quick search and it is caused by a bacteria infection so dh can't blame this on Bear!! I feel bad for sd, the poor thing has been through the ringer. I'm going to get her favorite take out meal tonight and maybe a teddy bear or something. What do teen girls like?

Magazines! I loved reading magazines when I was a teenage girl! Teen Spirit, Teen Cosmo, Glamour, Tiger Beat (not sure if half of them are still around??? I'm probably aging myself!lol)

I know I am it's just I want her to like it here and I want her to be happy. I guess I need to back off some huh?

I'm just going to throw this out there.

Just because she has pneumonia doesn't mean that exposure to the dog didn't contribute to her issues.

The irritation to her tissues from an allergen/asthma can make her more susceptible to getting pneumonia.

If she is sick, take out food may not be the best option. Perhaps a hot chicken soup?

You probably know what she likes. Not all teen girls want stuffed animals from a SM.

What about a stuffed emoji poop pillow? She got a change purse poop one and thought it was the cutest thing ever.

I don't get it either but she was so thrilled with it. I thought the pillow would be cute to her but someone mentioned allergens so I won't do that.

Just take care of her and be there for her. It sounds like you're buying her love. Just sit and watch whatever crappy movies she wants to watch and make her some soup or something.

I know presents are nice when you're sick, but having someone be there for you to rub your back and make you feel better is even nicer!

The hospital will send home a list of 'to-do's' when they release her. Follow them. Worry about having what is on the to-do list (may suggest cool mist vaporizer, for example). I'm amazed your DH didn't notice his kid shouldn't of been sent off to school this morning. Fluids, cold will taste best, and yes, wake her up to drink. Wake her for any meds ordered.

If it makes you feel like you're doing something 'special' for the kid, make her some chicken broth to sip, low sugar real fruit popsicle. I have my face hanging over a nice steaming cup of blackberry sage tea this afternoon. And for what it may be worth, pick up some pads. If the kid is being pushed fluids and hacking her head off, give her the comfort of knowing she won't be embarrassed by a dribble.

I hope she does ok and gets to feeling better. No fricking Bear talk. Now is not the time. Oh, and I hope Dad has called Mom. Even if Dad manages to have everything under control, Mom needs to be kept in the loop. Keep Bear far away from SD for now. None of you need that as a distraction. If Dad ends up taking SD to Grandma's while SD is recovering, be sure Dad doesn't dump all the care of SD on Grandma. This is his rodeo. He wanted it, he got it.

The kids are responsible for getting themselves up and to the bus. We leave before they make it out to the living room. She didn't come out and say she felt bad or anything. I wouldn't have sent her to school sick like that and dh wouldn't either.

Ugh...you know that if the DR finds out she is allergic to dogs and that you have a dog, he will HIGHLY recommend she not be around it. Especially if she has the flu or Pneumonia.

And FYI, her allergies could have contributed to her getting sick. Sorry for all of you at this point.
