"Stepmonster" by Wednesday Martin
has arrived in the mail! I am so excited! I started reading it and am having a hard time putting it down.
I feel so validated, I think I'm going to cry.

I can't believe that marriage
I can't believe that marriage counselors LACK in sharing this gold nugget with folks who seek help with blending families.
HELLO! It's AAMAZING!
You should be aware that A. A
You should be aware that A. A PhD in any field takes intelligence, determination, & years of hard work. B. Any research on stepmothering conducted on lab rats by MDs is unlikely to be of much use to most of us. C. I have yet to have an intelligent person who's read the book throw anything at me but gratitude for loaning it to her.
Yup. She can dish it, but she
Yup.
She can dish it, but she can't take it.
haha! LMAO!!! i think
haha! LMAO!!! i think experience trumps a college degree on the subject of stepmothering (and lots of other things) any day. i would much rather hear what other sm's have to say than listen to what a psychologist with no experience as sm has to say. i thought that was just common sense. but then again, common sense is very uncommon.
^ exactly ^ Why anyone would
^ exactly ^
Why anyone would want to take away whatever voice someone finds with the help of someone else, is beyond me. Especially if the *reason* why they feel that voice should be taken away is because, in their opinion, the helping person "doesn't have the right degree."
What a joke.
In aborigine tribes people are honored, respected, and valued for their natural abilities. They don't only honor, value, and respect the wisdom as long as that person has X, Y, and Z degrees.
As far as I'm concerned, DR. Martin just wrote the BEST self-help book ever written. I don't give a crap what her degree is. I'll call her a Dr. any day of the week. She has HEALED ME with her words. Soooo.... yeah.
WOW! Your DH gave them the
WOW! Your DH gave them the book???? I WOULD LOVE THAT!!!
My MIL has been a HUGE contributor in the problems we've been having. HUGE! My MIL and I got into it and she told me ALL of the things that I *should* be doing for my DH and for his children.
ALL of those things are things that I don't do for very specific reasons -- all reasons which are very valid. Of course, *I* don't matter. AT ALL.
Hahahaa... yeah, THAT was a
Hahahaa... yeah, THAT was a fun night for sure.
Oh I'm so glad you bought it
Oh I'm so glad you bought it and are reading it. I know when I read it, it gave me peace of mind that I wasn't the crazy one!
ENJOY!! and when you're done...pass it off to DH
OH MAN! It's awesome. DH said
OH MAN! It's awesome.
DH said that he would read it with me and we could discuss it. He is open to it so that is exciting!!
You know, I've been really
You know, I've been really tempted to read *Love Him, Love His Kids,* because I have heard it's so ridiculous. I keep forgetting to see if it's available at the library. Anybody else read it?
never heard of it, and i'm
never heard of it, and i'm sure it would make my blood pressure go thru the roof based on the name. how about "love your dad, love his wife" or "love your mom, love the one doing her job"? that would be much better. }:)
Wait, my bad, the book I
Wait, my bad, the book I meant is *The Single Girl's Guide to Marrying a Man, His Kids, & His Ex-Wife.* (With a title like that, how could you not want to read it, with a Slurpee cup of shiraz and a bottle of blood pressure pills close at hand.) Chapter 3's title is "Bonding with a kid who's bound to break your heart." Chapter 4 is "The Ex-wife, till death do you part."
I mean, really, I wouldn't pay money for it, but I'd like to read it, just so I can read parts of it aloud to my DH, and howl.
Uggg. Is it just
Uggg. Is it just regurgitation of the fairy tale that his kids are wonderful and we should love them just they are our very own?
Worse, I think; it's more
Worse, I think; it's more like whatever they dish out, you should take it & count yourself lucky to have a man. I mean, it's better to be mistreated by your skids & ignored by your DH than to be ALONE, right? Reading this is not recommend sober, IMO.
Stepmonster is to The Single Girl's Guide as smart, strong SMs are to the crazy, clingy BMs we all know
I've been really wanting to
I've been really wanting to read stepmonster!
