Appropriate undergarments for SD14
I was sorting some of the laundry that S-Kids left from the weekend and find a pair of thong panties. My first reaction was of disbelief. I don't know, maybe I'm just becoming prudish as I gracefully age, but 14 seems young for thongs and padded bras. What bothers me is that BM has to be buying these for her! Why do they want to grow up so fast? I try to reason with myself that it's only clothes, and clothes don't make a person, blah, blah, blah. But when BM is putting so much emphasis on appearances including everything from make-up to hair removal I think she's just pushing her into trouble.
What also gets to me is that these things are marketed to teens these days. With cleaver little emblems and Edward this and Jacob that on skimpy panties. And I looked everywhere for "starter bra's" that didn't have padding - too few and far between there. Am I too old fashioned in this respect? I'm only 30, but this is certainly not the undergarments i wore at 14. Is this what every 14 year old wears? And don't even get me started on swimwear....

when I was 14/15 (which was only 6-7 years ago!) I wanted to wear thongs and my mom said no. I got allowance every week and one weekend my friends and I (after my mom dropped us off at the mall) went to rue 21 and bought the 99 cent thongs. I did my own laundry so she never found out. And now, I HATE them. they are so uncomfortable! I also wore *somewhat* padded bras because I was a very late bloomer my mom didnt really seem to mind because I wasnt wearing overly sexual clothes and trying to show off my chest. Im not sure how I feel about thongs. I dont think I would want my 14 year old wearing them either, but I did and I turned out okay lol.

I think 14 is too young for thongs. I'm not a big fan of padded bras for little girls either or even lace on their undergarments.
I say no to all that too with SD14 but you gotta love the cool aunt for buying her a padded bra from Victoria Secrets. Thanks cool Aunt!
I'm going to be 29 this Friday. So don't worry about being a prude I'm right there with ya!
I hear you and agree....they
I hear you and agree....they grow up way too fast. I am 46 and was amazed that the boyfriend's teenage daughter wore padded bras, thongs and sexy drawers. Funny though, she is now almost 18 and has really never dated anyone who would even see them! I think they just get them to impress their friends and brag! :?
I am bothered by this as
I am bothered by this as well. My SD is only 12 and has been wearing padded bras for a couple years now. Add that to the shaving, waxing of eyebrows, professional hair highlights and too sexy clothes, I am very worried for her. But I'm reminded it's not for me to worry about.
I am more concerned with
I am more concerned with SD13's personality then her clothes. She wears practical cotton undies but she does like padded bra's, "form fitted" (read tight!) jeans and shirts. She does wear makeup but I dont think she overdoes it badly. She's a pretty girl but she also is level headed and hasn't given us any reason to think we have to be concerned. I want her to be comfortable and I feel that she's old enough to decide what she does and doesn't want to wear. If she were choosing to wear an EAT ME tee-shirt and FU hat I might have a difference in opinion. That would bug me more then a padded bra which I know she wears because girls are self conscious and she is a tiny little thing.
Personally, I wear thongs for
Personally, I wear thongs for a very practical reason - I don't like panty lines. I have a large butt to waist ratio and have pretty much never found underwear with a butt that fits well and comfortably with no lines. Thongs are the easiest garment ever to fit - there simply is no butt, so it doesn't matter how big mine is! And there are some really soft fabric ones that feel like wearing nothing. And voila - no lines! I'm happy.
Key question - *why* does she want to wear thongs. If it's to be "sexy", yeah maybe there's an issue. If she just prefers the fit or the feel and it's nobody else's business, then maybe it's ok.
Just my two cents.

My mom didn't let me wear
My mom didn't let me wear thongs until I was old enough to have a job, earn my own money, & was willing to take on the responsiblity of washing my own clothes. (She didn't want to see them.) Her reasoning was that at 14, 15, 16 years old, it shouldn't matter what they look like, because no one but me should be seeing them.
I do think there could be a compromise made. At 14, girls do start wanting to just feel more grown up. Maybe there could be a happy medium somewhere between cotton granny panties & skimpy thongs.
Out of my own experience
Out of my own experience growing up im now 20 Ill tell you it is just a fad that teens go through from peer pressure im sure everyone has heard the terms of granny panies and being flat chested.so im sure its nothing but her just wanting to fit in with her peers and not to be made fun of.Kids are cruel and will do anything to fit in.As long as you don't have suspician of her being sexually active I would'nt be to concerned.
DH's kid (14 y/o girl) wears
DH's kid (14 y/o girl) wears her shirts low enough to expose most of her breasts. She developed early and is very, very curvy. We are constantly telling her to pull up her shirt. We're not sure if it's a purposeful thing, because her mother is extremely promiscuous and it could be learned behavior. We also know she is emotionally immature, so how she views herself could still be that of a small child. Any way you slice it, it's sending out a message I don't believe she is equipped to handle.
Holy moly.....and I thought I
Holy moly.....and I thought I had a lot to deal with when it comes to DH's kid. I'm sorry you have to have that in your household. That really sucks Blended.
I have absolutely no problem
I have absolutely no problem with thongs for my teens. Panty lines under tighter clothing just look tacky. Thongs eliminate that. And pretty panties make us feel pretty even when no one is going to see them.
No offense, but the fact that
No offense, but the fact that you don't get pantylines with those undies doesn't prove that nobody gets pantylines with them. And saying that thongs aren't a valid solution to pantylines because pantylines existed before thongs doesn't logically follow.
The poster is asking about her 14 year old. Perhaps if a 14 year old doesn't like pantylines that's too bad and she should just deal with it because a thong would be an inappropriate solution for her given her age. I might agree with that (or I might not). And as you're saying, perhaps something else can be found for her (or perhaps not).
That doesn't mean that wearing thongs to avoid pantylines is invalid reasoning. Several of us have said we do just that, and it does in fact eliminate them.
You should try the microfiber thongs.

I have a friend who, when she saw her SD wearing her pants really low, pulled her own pants even lower so her butt crack showed, then told SD "I'll pull mine up when you pull yours up!"
