nasty little story about food tampering led me here
I was doing a search on stephell and this little site popped up on the bottom of the page. I was up last night debating rather or not to open an account here. I'm going to do a blog and hope I get some help.
I have been with my husband for 11 years married for 8. He has two children from another woman and two from me all boys. When my stepsons where younger they were peaches. Now that they are entering into teenage years they have become a thorn in my side. My biggest problem is I work for a chef specializing in organic and vegan recipes. My boss encourages us to be creative so sometimes when there are new recipes I think up I store some samples in my fridge. Everyone in my household gets a tray they may taste but they know not to touch the tray in the refrigerator. I have been having a few things go missing here and there. Like a juice jug that was filled to the top with fruit I spent hours juicing and combining will be half gone. A platter will have three or four samples missing, I always end up with one or two cupcakes looking likes someone hade smeared the frosting. I can't afford to have food and drink going missing for work when there are plenty food and drink to go around at home.
I am not the one to point fingers and label a thief without proof. So I sat at the dining room table last night in the dark waiting. I had some deviled eggs in the fridge labeled for work. I hear the pitter patter of feet and giggles. When I see the light I pop up and walk into the kitchen to find both of my stepsons. They see me and tell me they were just having a snack. I open the fridge and see the covering of the eggs slightly moved to the side and one egg that had a finger indentation in it. I asked who did it and they said it was like that when they came down there. They tried blaming my youngest son who is four who was asleep. Mind you these boys are 12 and 16 my first thought was it could be one of my sons who are 6 and 4 but when I saw them standing there I was so angry. Because if it where one of my boys I would know they had done it just to be greedy but the older boys I think they did it to hurt me or as a joke. That joke messes with my job. How do I look when I grab a platter in the morning and present it to my boss only to open it and be shocked. I can't serve something that clearly looks as if it’s been tampered with.
My husband took away their phones and Portable PlayStations. He phoned their mother who said they won’t be having any fun this weekend. Even though they are punished I'm still upset with them.

Welcome to our crazy
Welcome to our crazy site.
Kudos to your DH for punishing his kids. Sounds like the Skids are pranking you without really thinking about what it could mean for your job. I'm not sure what your living situation is but have you thought of maybe having a mini fridge somewhere for your work foods with a lock on it? I know it sounds drastic, but it would put an end to the food thief once and for all.
No need to buy a new fridge -
No need to buy a new fridge - you can get containers for inside the fridge that lock. I think they make them for contentious roommate situations, but they would work for your dilemma. You might have to buy a few if you need to protect large quantities.
And perhaps the money used to buy them should be deducted from skids' allowance?
Yeah, lock up the goodies,
Yeah, lock up the goodies, and try to be happy that they like your cooking! This will get better, because you busted them, and your DH punished them appropriately. Maybe they can help you with cooking. It's a good way to bond, useful skills for them to learn, and chopping a few onions can be a great punishment!
Put a lock on your fridge.
Put a lock on your fridge. End of issue. They also will no longer be allowed to grab a snack or a drink without asking permission. So it WILL inconvenience them and they can be told it's because they couldn't keep their mitts off your work!
