Son's Nerve asking for Easter Toys

public1234's picture

Ok last night SO was talking to his kids, as usual the clown brigade, AKA BM, was performing on the couch as the kids tried to talk to Dad. When boy 12 ½ TOLD his Dad what he wanted for Easter. Dad told his son that Easter wasn’t about getting stuff like Christmas was.

Last time we’ve seen kids was at Christmas. Now during Christmas his daughter 7 was asking about the new school that was built, and that my daughter attends. His daughter was excited, and honestly I don’t think she thought she had to leave our house after Christmas break to go back with Mom. She wants as I’ve said before; she wants to live with us not her Mom.

When son 12 piped in rudely, “Really Daddy? Really? You think that you’ll beat mommy, and get us back”. After his dad expressed yes that he hoped to have them live with him again, and it wasn’t about beating anyone, the boy laughed and was like “yeah right in your dreams.”

So all I can think about is his, “Hey Daddy I know what I want for Easter” bit! It royally pissed me off. How Dare that little A** monkey ask for crap! He will not be getting the $200.00 dollar Wii attachment he asked for by which BM told him on the phone to tell Daddy how much it cost. (BIT**) I’m sure BM put him up to since she’s always piping in saying why don’t you ask your Father since he has all the money. GRRR! I’m now dreading Spring Break visit since I remembered how appreciative the little snot is, and how much anger he is manifesting channeled from his mother to his father.

Since when is Easter a gift-giving holiday?

Hell, for Easter my brother and I got small baskets with some jelly beans, assorted candies and a hollow chocolate bunny and under the easter grass was something tiny like one of those wind-up chicks, a kite, coloring book, paint-by-numbers set or my favorite, Match box cars.

Same thing I have always done for DD who is now 15. I don't get the "every holiday I get something" mentality. Just doesn't make sense to me.

That is how it was for me too. We always got a nice basket with plastic eggs, candy, etc., then hunted eggs. I don't get it at all. MIL is the type that buys skid something for every single Holiday. On Valentine's Day he got all kinds of crap, a Thor toy, a monster truck, a big gift bag full of candy, crayons, coloring books, sticker pad...for Valentine's Day?!?! Easter she will go all out, last Fourth of July they brought him a box of firecrackers and bragged about how they spent almost 200 on them. Halloween, he gets gifts and more candy than he needs in a year. Christmas he gets more gifts than the other grandkids, it is just ridiculous. I am right there with you on not getting this "every holiday I get something" mentality either. Just more entitlement.

You nailed our situation completely! I'm so glad I am on here and people understand it really helps! Thank you so much!

My Easter growing up was a new church dress, since we went to church every sunday, and a modest basket with dyed eggs we did the night before. My SO doesn't believe in going over board on gifts either for all these holiday's. BM grew up (according to SO) with getting a lot for EVERY holiday.

But that's on her if she wants to do that for the kids when they are celebrating with her. Not for her to put the expectation in the kids head that Dad is going to do that. I think she wants to do that to make them disapointed here when they don't get that, and happy with her when they come back home, and she's went ALL OUT with their Easter "gifts"

Since the kids have lived with us in the past I know for a fact we've never bought gifts for Easter, Valentines etc...Just a small things. Def. nothing like a $200.00 Wii thing!

We got our baskets of candy, a dress for church, and a small toy (like a jump rope or hula hoop or something). Easter ws never a gift-giving holiday.

SS13 asked for an iPod and SS8 asked for A couple of Wii games. DH, bless his heart, laughed at them. }:)

Ugh! BM does that to us also!! The skids will be talking to DH on the phone a few days before their visit & SS11 (not the other 2 so much) will start off by asking for items well over $100. & yep I said Items!!! Sometimes BM can be heard giving him such outrageous ideas! Darn that evil woman!! For Valentines day the little goof flat out asked DH if he was buying him this Skylabders Giants game set (expensuve) & lol, DH chuckled & said do ya think we are made of money son? Then he told him that was rediculous!! DH talked to his other two boys who never once brought it up or asked for anything, then SS11 gets back on the phone with DH & says "so are you or arent you buying me the Skylanders set"? Oh crap!! You could just see in DHs face how ticked he was! He told him "absolutely NOT". Then SS proceeds of course straight to his extremely annoying, overexaggerated whining voice. DH kept telling him it was just Valentines Day- not his Birthday or Christmas for crying out loud & said goodnight.

Now- I had made these little gift bags for All the kids, my Daughter included. It had a couple of the individual snack items in it, light those mini treat packs you get at the store & I handmade all their little heart shaped cards signed by DH & I. Something 'cutesy'. & I maybe spend $20 on them- total. My DD8 was very excited & thrilled for hers & thanked us both immediantly. SS's? Nope- never uttered those two words 'thank you'. The only thing SS11 said was "I dont want it- its cheap". Omg! My DH is Still apologizing over it cause he feels bad kniwing the effort I had put in it!! Ugh!!

Sooo.... Anyone wanna take bets if the skids will start asking those questions all over again, because of Easter?? Im gonna just laugh thru it cause Im doing small baskets up & thats that!!! Ugh!!

I have done different things. I typically always get them a basket with candy and a small gift. Last year I got my two girls an outfit and candy and just gave the boys 25.00 cash- because they could care less about clothes and will wear e same things over and over! It's the first time I ever gave cash I just felt bad for getting the girls full outfits. This year I'm thinking a small bit of candy and 15 iTunes cards. So, yes I do pretty much always get them so etching for Easter- just nothing extravagant.
