O/T - Blizzard watch here yet AGAIN

RedWingsFan's picture

Just have to scream - I'M SO OVER WINTER ALREADY! OMFG! We just got dumped on the other day with a foot of fresh snow, then woke up to icy rain and now it's snowing with a blizzard watch and winter storm warning in effect. I'm in Denver and reallllllly questioning why I ever moved away from Hawaii!!!!!!!!!! On another note, at least it'll be 60 and sunny by Saturday.

We got 2 baby chinchillas over the weekend and we're having so much fun with them! Anyone here have these pets? They're fast and can get into the smallest spaces, so we're working hard at "chin-proofing" our tiny apartment. Our cat seems very curious and interested and so far just watches them run around and will occasionally bat at their tails as they go by, but we're super careful when they are out of their cage around the cat. He's a very skilled hunter with all of his claws and I do not want any accidents.

Hope everyone is doing well and is having better weather today than me! Smile

I tell ya Hypo - I'm just miserable with this shit. It's supposed to be REALLY bad right around the time I have to drive home. And we still have 2 more days left in the week before it'll all melt and get nicer out. Fuck! Where's Spring? Certainly not here!

Identity - I hope it doesn't come your way! I am SOOOOO over winter. It's the middle of April, dammit!

The chins are males so they'll reach about a pound to a pound and a half each. The females are larger.

They're nocturnal so they sleep all day (like our cat) while we're at work and we take them out after dinner for an hour or two. We love to let them loose in the kitchen and give them dust baths and let them run and play. They're sooooo fun!

We named them "Barley" and "Hopps" (their parents are named "Sage" and "Basil" so we wanted to stay with that sort of theme, only something a bit cooler). I wish I could post pics here!

I miss living in FL but not during summer when it feels like you walk outside to a hot, wet oven!

SanAntonioSoccerMom's picture

That is funny. I won't even go to Florida until the end of June or July. We usually the 4th of July or later. I won't even swim unless it is upper 80's-90's. I love Florida in the summer time. Hot hot hot just like I like it.

My friends planned a girls trip to Key West last November and I bailed at the last minute because it wasn't hot enough LOL

I don't know really...I think I am used to it. I was stationed in Cuba in the 90's and have lived all over the Southwest. I prefer Florida summers to the 110 Arizona heat. And I don't think the "dry heat" makes it any better. It is hot as hell there in the summer. Miserable, you can't even go outside.

My hair is naturally curly so the humidity in Florida and Cuba was good to my hair. Here, I just can't seem to get it to look right without a flat iron. It is humid in the morning but then it dries out by the afternoon. It is like we are teetering on the line between the Southwest and the Southeast here.

The gulf coast of FL is my favorite. I've lived in Daytona and Holiday, FL. Definitely nicer on the west coast of FL...

My dolphin pic on my profile was taken in Port Aransas. It was nice for one weekend but NOTHING like FLorida. We usually drive to Destin every summer.

I cannot believe you are still getting snow!! That is so terrible. I feel so bad for you. I thought I had it bad!! Is it chinchillas that can jump really high or am I thinking of something else?? They are so cute! Years ago I had a prairie dog as a pet. He used to go around the house and steal my bras and hide them in his cage. Took me awhile to figure out who was stealing all my pretty bras!! Of course they were ripped to shreds by the time I found them.

RedWingsFan's picture

Yes, Chinchillas jump really high. Already as babies, they're hitting about 3' off the floor!

Prairie dogs are all over Colorado. SOOOOOO cute!

I have lived here almost 6 years now. We won't leave Texas, we may end up going to Dallas/Frisco in a few years. This is my favorite place by far. I can't do cold weather, meaning anything below 60.

That is just crazy for Denver. Hope it's gone by the time I'm back out there in June! (In MT, that would not be a given) Til then, we are steaming down here in SoFL, high of 88 yesterday (= stupid. in April. honestly) The only thing that makes it liveable is that ocean breeze!

I concur with Whicita Falls. I did the "Hotter than Hell" race there a few summers ago and it was brutal weather with nothing to do. They did have the Ialian Air Force there which is bonus eye candy.

I used to live in North Padre, right off the PID from Corpus. I LOVED it there. It was one of the happiest times of my life.

I love Texas. The people there are wonderful.

Me too. I saw THREE cars stuck on my way to work this morning. I know I live "up north" but really?? Mother nature...REALLY??

Hey Redwings,

I'm in Colorado too. I also moved from Maui, HI back to Colorado. BUT I'm so sick of the cold we are moving back to Hawaii in 2 years ..... or me sooner if I get fed up with the DH and stepshits enough.

I'm also soooo sick of the snow! I have so many cute sundresses I'm dying to wear. COME ON WARM WEATHER!

RedWingsFan's picture

Hey Married - I moved from O'ahu in 2010 to Denver and I'm regretting it. Other than meeting DH, I wish I'd have stayed in Hawaii!!!

Shaking,

They are SOOOOOOOOO cute and super soft. Almost to the point where you can't feel their fur...their coats are so dense. They have 80-100 hairs per follicle whereas a human has only one.

We use small animal bedding, which is like a shredded paper stuff. They can be trained to use a litter box as well.

And yes, ferrets BITE. I used to be a vet tech and have had MANY ferret bites over the years. Plus they stink even after being descented.

Chins don't have a smell at all!

I-m so happy red, sadly it looks as though that storm is going to hit my area too. I have no clue if it going to stick or not. Ready for leaves on the trees too!

RedWingsFan's picture

Sorry Sunflower - the only silver lining to this is by Saturday it should be 55 and sunny!
