This afternoon my 15 month old was getting fussy and cranky. He had had a nap but he was acting like he was still really tired. So I grabbed his blanket and him and we sat down and watched tv. Within 10 min he was out cold. Then he starts throwing up everywhere. I put him in the bath and he threw up again. Finally i got him washed up and dressed and he threw up again all over the couch. His dad came home at that time. dh took the baby so i could clean up a bite. He got sick another three time all over the couch on the parts he missed, on me, all over the bathroom, and on my bed. then we decided to take him to the er. we get there and it took for ever to get him back. Then we sat in the room for 2 hours for the lady to tell me how to handle a temperature and hands me a medication chart on how much tylonal to give a child. Um hello i did not come in cause he had a temperature. I came it cause he is puking all over the place and cant stop. yes he had a temp but really im not an idiot i can read labels and i dont need to go to the er for them to tell me my son has a temp. I knew that. I want to know why he had such a drastic change so fast that he was puking for almost 3 hours every 5 min. He was barely sitting up when we got to the er he was so sick. He finally stopped puking and is fast asleep and i got him to keep some really really diluted juice down. but my point is how the heck does someone just do that to a baby. Really. Really. WTF

Seriously? That's ridiculous! They should have at least sent you home with some Phenergan in case he starts throwing up again. Vomiting in babies can dehydrate them FAST. It was terrible of them not to take you seriously, and I say that as a nurse. I would be pissed.

first off i am not a first time parent. I know how to treat a sick child. I too have nurse training, but no they did absolutly nothing for him. It wasnt a fever that caused him to throw up he had food poisoning i found out later. from some cookies that him and i ate from a friend of my husbands. I got sick too later on that night. This isnt the first time this lady in the er has done this. The first time i ever saw her in there my son had a sever upper respiratory infection, double ear infection, sinus infection, and threash from a procedure he had to have done. She told me to give him musinex and tylonal. The next time i had to take my son in he had rsv and she told me he was perfectly fine there was nothing wrong with him. I have alot of family who are nursing and i am very proud of them but to not actually look at the child other then to say hey he has a fever and he seems fine so take him home and give him tylonal. That is what makes me mad. There are plenty of wonderful nurses and dr out there and believe me i have had my share of both. I dont overreact until i know my sons are not being taken care of. So yes when i wasted 4 hours in the er for them to just tell me to give him tylonal and then find out the next day he had food poisoning and that was the real problem well yeah i get mad.

Baby DD did this *a lot* and one time I actually did take her in after an all-day puking session where she couldn't even keep down teaspoons of water, and puking was her *only* symptom. No fever, no diarrhea. I'm sorry the medical staff were such jerks. Is that the only ER in the area? If not, I'd never take him back to that one again if I were you. I'd also file a formal complaint.

I also don't understand what the ER did wrong? What exactly did you want them to do?

Quite frankly, you shouldn't have gone to the ER at all. That wasn't an emergency. Call your pediatrician and get advice over the phone or bring baby in for a sick visit. You were made to wait so long because there were actually emergency situation that needed to be tended to before your non emergency.

I did call the nursing line cause his pediatrician had already closed they told me to take him to the er. and they didnt find out what was causeing anything to happen just said he had a fever. this isnt the first time this spacific nurse has dont this to my son and im just mad cause he didnt get the care he needed. they should have known something in a 15 month old was making him puke that much. you dont puke 10 times in and hour and a half for nothing. he could have had a stomach infection but luckily it was just food poisoning.

With a 15 month old vomiting over and over again, they SHOULD have been worrying about dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Unfortunately, Pedialyte does very little for a child who can't keep it inside his stomach. Neither does Tylenol or Ibuprofen. And just because someone is a "professional" does not mean they always act that way. I've been a nurse for nearly 25 years and seen a lot of unprofessional behavior from so-called professionals.

I have an enormous amount of respect for the people in your profession most of you dont get the credit you deserve. but there are some people in your profession that gives them all a bad name. For instance this lady who treated my son or should i say lack of treatment in my son. This isnt the first time i have delt with her and every time i have had to go in and talk to her she says the same thing there is nothing wrong with my son but there always is. The answer is not always tylonal and musinex. I think people like her take the job because of job security because there is always a shortage of nursing staff.
