Fun Calls with BM, "It's your fault this is happening"

step off already's picture

SS still wants to continue to ask his mother to PLEASE fill out the financial aid forms for him to get some assistance with private school. Last night before his scheduled call, he asked me to write down what he needed to tell his mom to do: go to the website, download the application and return it to the school.

He asked and she said no, but that DH could talk with her about it.

So DH called her immediately (which in itself is huge because he DESPISES the woman, but he's trying to make this happen for SS). DH started to explain to her that SS needed her to complete the financial aid forms to see if he can qualify.

She said that she won't do it until after the court date - which still isn't set - that child support services is setting up to make her pay some child support for SS. DH tried to explain that it didn't matter if she made a lot or a little, that SS would not qualify if she failed to fill out the form. She blamed DH for putting her through this and it's all DH's fault that she's not able to do it.

OK.
whatever.

So, after the call we explained to SS that his mother has made it very clear that his education is not a priority to her. And that he would need to deal with that. We explained that he has his dad's support, My support (though minimal since I have 4 other children of my own) and he can consider getting a part time job to help pay. He seemed to like that idea - but we tried to explain to him that if he is in an academic program, he will have lots of homework and his grades will need to be high so it could be quite a challeng, but that it's not out of the question.

SS seemed to get it.

He still wants to apply to the school that charges $1500 a month in tuition. The one that he did not attend testing for since he was at his mothers. The one that only takes kids scoring in the 80th percentile on standardized tests.

We will also be attending the open house for 8th grade families for our local public high school.

Oh - and he's finally completed the two page application for the college prep charter school. Some effort on some of the questions and other one sentence answers - where he was provided space to write a complete paragraph.

We'll see...
