First Father's Day with DH
I had a wonderful Father's Day.
DH took me up on the suggestion that he take his dad and the kids out fishing for Father's Day. Lately, every time we go out on the weekend, SD always asks if me and baby are coming too, as if we are not automatically included in a family outing. It feels terrible to not be included, but I've realized it feels a lot less terrible if I exclude myself. My last outing fishing with them was not much fun because I was pretty much excluded even though I was present, so this time, I chose to stay at home and have a nice relaxing day with my baby. Apparently DH didn't enjoy the fishing trip very much, he was drained when he got back home and fell asleep on the couch. But his dad and his kids had a good time, so he was glad he went, even though he teased me about ruining his Father's Day by sending him fishing.
Then the kids organized themselves to go back to mom's all on their own! But at the insistence of their mom, who apparently planned something special for them to do on Father's Day and wanted them back home well-dressed and early. It meant they missed the family get-together at our house with grandparents and aunts and uncles, and they were missed, but at this point, not enough to damper our own celebration.
My MIL cooked a lot of good food, and we had a nice family time at home. I had asked DH for 10 minutes of his day for our own special Father's Day celebration to open his gift. It was a beautiful baby book about dad and baby that cost me a total of $3.20. I could have cried when he read it to baby later in the night just before baby was ready for bed.
And then I made up for sending him fishing.
