Follow up to Stepmom not attending my baby shower...

For those of you who participated in the crazy long thread last week regarding my stepmom not attending my baby shower, I thought I'd update you quickly to tell you what ended up happening.

Firstly, my shower was AMAZING. My sister is soooo great...I wish every single person I invited had been able to attend because it was a ton of fun!

I spent two days/nights with my dad and his wife (my stepmom). Although my plan was to really "talk" with my stepmom about that I wished she could attend the party and not feel like anyone would look at her strangely or say anything rude to her, we really didn't have that conversation. I did tell her that I wished she could go, and there was an unspoken moment where I knew that she understood what I meant...she understood where I was going, and I didn't even need to go there. It was actually a very calming moment between us...so hard to explain. But I feel that she does understand the situation and was just making what she felt was the best choice at the time.

I had a long talk with my mom during a 4 hour drive as well. We discussed a lot of things about my dad and her and their relationship. I talked about the role that my dad and my SM now have in my life and that I hope for her to find someone that she can share the rest of her life with. It was a good talk as well and I hope it helped her to realize that SM is in my life (and my soon-to-be son's life) now for good, and that I want that to be a positive relationship as well.

The shower WOULD have been an uncomfortable one for my stepmom. It was mostly my mom's family. I expected more of my dad's family to come, but it ended up being only a handful anyway. When it came down to it, I was sort of glad that SM decided not to go, as it would have been pretty easy to feel the nervous tension there.

Up ahead...we've got the birth of my baby, the baptism, a wedding shower, and my wedding to have everyone get together. Hoping for no drama...we'll see. Smile
