OT: Need Roommate out NOW! Need to prepare nursery for my own sanity!

SteppingUp's picture

Beyond the fact that I could blame the nesting thing, I'm typically a preparer. I want all my ducks in a row. We have everything we "need" for the baby...except it's all sitting in boxes and bags in a pile in our basement closet. Nothing is put together yet. I have 7 weeks until my due date.

We have a roommate. His bedroom is what will be the baby's bedroom, plus he pretty much has our entire family room in the basement (couch, huge corner computer desk, huge tv, shelves, etc). He was supposed to move out the end of December. Now he's not moving out until the end of January. GRRRR!! I need him out NOW!

I'm due February 28th but I was measuring ahead by 10 days at my last ultrasound.

I don't want our roommmate to feel bad that I want him out, as he's a good friend of ours...and the other issue is that my DF is not worried about it, either. He says it'll just take one weekend to get all the baby stuff put together and sorted out and built. I know in my heart of hearts that it WILL be fine. That if I go into pre-term labor and we have the baby in our home before the nursery is ready, it's not the end of the world. We will all survive...But still!

DH is also saying, it's one more month of rent that we get out of him so we should be glad to get that extra money for one more time. That makes me feel guilty to ask him to get out, because I'm not going to be paid anything for maternity leave from my job, so we really do need the money.

BUT I really really really really really wish roommate would just move out so I can get it all set up and feel PREPARED rather than feel panicky for the final weeks.

I wish I could get these guys to understand...

Awwww...you're thinking logically here (need the money)..but you can't help your emotions...the urge to nest, prepare and do so in advance is VERY common in pregnant women.

It's very normal to feel this way. Is there anything you could do in the meantime to help w/the nesting urges?

Organize other things in the home, pack the hospital bags, do some laundry for the baby...go buy paint, organize your kitchen cabinets? I did tons of those "organizing" things when preggos lol. I was like OCD/ADD all in one haha~

Yes, I have been doing those things, too, which helps. Every time I start to do something though it's almost pointless. We'll be reorganizing a lot of our house when the roommate moves out, because we'll be able to use our family room finally. I'm excited for that too...so it's just a lot of WAITING right now and I'm not very good at that Smile

I went through the same thing... we put our BS1 crib together about 2 weeks before he was born and only because I started the whole process on my own, so DH was inclined to finish it. but that's just how I am.. I am a preparer, I don't like surprises, I don't like flying by the seat of my pants. DH is the typical male... no worries, everything will figure itself out.

I think we're a good balance to each other sometimes as I drive him to do more than he normally would and he puts out my fire when I get to obsessing about dumb stuff.

Haha! Your DH reminds me of mine...totally not the worrier-type. He definitely compliments me too and cools me down when I'm wound up. I think it's more the fact that I just DO NOT know WHEN this little guy is coming, so at least having his stuff prepared will make me feel better about that! Smile

see! you are like me (or I am like you)! When I got about 4 weeks from my due date, I started to panic because I felt like he could basically come at any time! I did end up having him a week early but the funny thing is, since I have had him, I have definately calmed down some as far as planning, details etc. I think you almost have to when you have a baby, as they can make your life totally unpredictable!

I am in a panic right now though, as we are leaving on Monday to visit friends and flying with BS1 for the first time.... have been obsessing for 2 weeks now about what I need to pack, bring, not pack, how much, how will he be on the plane, omg what if there are delays, what if, what if...... ARGH!!! lol and of course all the while, DH just rolls with it, not a care in the world!
