SS hanging all over DH like a little monkey...

tankh21's picture

So DH is set to have shoulder surgery on August 18th and he will not able to do anything with his right arm because it will be in a sling for 3 months. As many of you know my YSS has ADHD and no impulse control. I am worried that SS will try to hang on DH like a little monkey like he always does. DH will tell him that it hurts his shoulder when SS tries to climb on him. So now SS needs to understand that he cannot hang on DH at all now. I know he will try even after DH has explained to him that he cannot but like I said he has no impulse control. I am just so worried that SS will forget that he cannot hang on DH and his shoulder will get injured even worse. Should I say out of it and just let DH handle his kid or should I try to be consistent and keep on reminding SS that he cannot hang on DH at all?

We won't see SS until the day of the Surgery though. So DH will have to talk to him right when we pick him up.

do you have a recliner? i hope so, he will need to sleep in that for the first week or so.

not sure if you recall, but my dh has had shoulder surgery twice in the last few years, and it's a b!t@#. kaos is like ADHD on speed, so it was really rough. you can continue reminding if you feel the need, but honestly the searing PAIN it will cause your dh will likely make him react faster and harsher than you could.

i feel sorry for your dh and hope for a fast recovery.

No we don't have a recliner Tuff. Thank you for the advice. I didn't think about that DH would react faster and harsher since he will be in pain. Hopefully this will be the last and only surgery that DH had to have. They are shaving off 2 bones and reattaching to muscles.

Shoulder surgery is brutal. Had a friend of my DH's go through it and it was months of misery.

Your DH should be able to explain to his son that he can't monkey bar on him while he is recovering. If SS forgets, and you are there, you can certainly put the block move on him... gently corral him away and remind him. especially if he is attacking from behind.
