When did it become the thing for kids to not have to learn to do for themselves?

Poor ss9... Bless his heart ... He can't even put his shoes on the right feet... I refuse to answer him when he says is this right? Tie my shoes wah wah .. No sir you haven't even made an attempt .. Then we go into the STOP!!! YOU STOP WAH WAH!! TIE MY SHOES!! ... DH says you stop son I'm tired of hearing stop.. Last week he was half way tieing them and doing the my mommy makes me practice .. Well that's good she should be as we've been trying to make you attempt and practice for 2 years and all you can do is go into a screaming crying fit..

Next they are 9 & 11.. DH please have them get dressed either in the bathroom or in their room.. They are to old to be running through the house naked.. Especially infront of their step mother ...

Next: DH where are their clothes from their moms? Me: I don't know I told them when they got here to take a grocery bag and make sure every article of clothing they had on including under wear and socks made it in the bag ..DH: well that doesn't work with him (ss9). Well you are going to have to make it work with him he's old enough now to be able to strip in his room and place the clothes in a bag.. It won't work until you make it..

Just saying it won't kill him to make him do a little for himself

I know right! I'm like dude I didn't ask him to build a house or anything crazy .. I asked him to take his clothes off and stuff them in a bag ..there shouldn't be an option for that doesn't work for him

It's very sad how kids are NOT being raised today. My SS's or 10 and 7 and are USELESS............at 10 and 7 my bios could make cereal, toast, toaster strudels, pop tarts, PB&J, basic sandwiches. They both still need help wiping their asses. I have not seen my bio sons private parts since he was about 6-7.

For Fuck sake the 10 yo still need help showering. SMFH

I seriously had to tell the 9 year old this morning that's conditioner not body wash or shampoo and he just looked at me .. I said u don't need that, put it on the shelf .. He said I can't get any to come out of the bottle .. I said hand it to me .. I put it in the shelf and said that one over there is what u always use .. Oooooooh

Oh i am going through that right now with SS 7... he actually got out of the shower, no towel on stuck his head out and yelled for me like 4 times before me saying "im coming!!!" Got in there and asked what he needed and he said..." im done" :? Me: "okay, turn the water off use your towel to dry off and get dressed you know how to do this stuff i have seen you do it many times and your little brother even knows how to do it." Why he does this???? The answer im sure will shock all of you. Wink .. SD said "yeah mom still does all that for him" Then there is the i need a drink, well go get one your a big boy which i receive blank stares back ( if there was soda cans he would get them and try to sneak them to his room... but water bottles and juice boxes he thinks they should be served to him.... oh and the most recent one, i need this big blimp thing blown up.... well put your month on it and blow it up like you do with balloons. "I CAN"T!!!" "Me: Have you tried?" "I CAN"T" Me: you either at least try to or play with something else... 10 mins later " hey I blew it up all by myself" Yay good job see i knew you could..... DH tends to give me looks when i dont jump up and do things for them, but when they come in excited they did it he just looks at me and smiles....

OMG - DH asked SS9 to grab a wet cloth from the kitchen so DH could wipe down the dining room table.... simple enough??

SS didn't know what a wet cloth was??

I am terrified that DH and BM are not teaching their children to be independent which bodes bad for me.

I teach my children to be independent every single day - I want them to grow up and move out with confidence. But lately, now that BD15 is getting older and I see SD15 and see their life skills - I am absolutely terrified my children will move out and start their lives and the skids will never leave. That thought haunts me.

Didn't ask. And likely yes. Because of course DH came and got it himself, muttering away.

Personally, if my kid pulled that, I would have not only led them to the sink and pointed it out - I would have then made them also wipe the table.

Yup, I know how you feel. It took me forever to get DH to stop turning the water on for SS10. Also, SS10 still can't tie his shoes. The troll simply buys him the Velcro kind so she doesn't have to be bothered to teach him or make him tie his shoe.

I swear SS12 "forgets" just to get attention. I dont know how many times DH has gone into the bathroom to show him how to clean his ears in the shower and then use a q-tip!!! BM pays no attention to these grooming habits that he lacks. Doing laundry on weekends I have to ask him - where is your dirty underwear and socks??? If SS16 is not there SS12 would forget to pack his damn brain!

When my SD23 was about 22, she came over and had a couple of outfits for her 2 nieces' birthday parties, which she was going to after she left our house.

She was just going to give them to the girls in the Walmart bags, her being jobless and too poor for anything else (hello, Dollar Tree). Anyway, I gave her a couple of gift bags and tissue paper from my stash.

I kid you not, I watched her for 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do. It was hysterical and sad all at the same time.
