Our attorney says that she will move to ask the court to appoint a guardian ad litem for the pending relocation hearing. Anyone have experience with this? Any tips on what to expect?
No guarantees unfortunately. I've heard of some great ones who really try to do what's best for the kids. And I've heard of some that are so biased that they give full placement to an abusive parent.
In DH's case, the GAL told DH that all of his concerns were irrelevant (tardy to school, dance/swim more important than homework, BM telling teachers that SD was too difficult to control etc), that he was punishing SS9 by not forcing him to do dance (which SS9 told DH, BM, AND court ordered therapist that he hated dance class and didn't want to do it.), and that BM was doing the best she could as a single parent. Blech! DH did end up with 2 extra days per month during the school year since BM couldn't exactly hide the ridiculous amount of tardies, but that's all.
