Holiday surprise...

Trudie's picture

...a good one!

The one thing that I was looking forward to this year was getting together with my son and his SO, who I adore. They came over for brunch, which was cooked by DH so I could sleep in after working Christmas Eve. (It was a long day, about 15 hours. The holidays are challenging in healthcare with peoples' mental health issues.) We sat around the table, had a lovely meal, then opened gifts. I had told my son, who just bought a house, to go easy on the gifts. (I tend to spoil my kids and their SOs because it brings me joy. I do not want them to feel pressured to keep up.) They gave us a couple of small gifts individually and a rather large gift certificate to one of our favorite places. I was delighted when DH opened it and insisted that they come along with us when we use it! This kindness from my DH warmed my heart; the fact that he appreciated what was given to us and wanted to share the experience with my son and SO. He really is the best! We then sat together, chatted and caught up for a couple of hours. It was real, and genuine. To me, that is what Christmas and the holidays are all about...spending quality time with loved ones.
