Kissing Dad on the Lips?
I went to pick my D7 up from the after school program on Friday. When the parents pick up their kids from the after school program, we have to sign them out. Each grade level has a different binder for signing the kid out.
While I am waiting for my daughter, I notice another father coming to pick up his daughter. I've noticed him before because of what he does when he greets his daughter, so this time I make a note to see which binder he signs so I can get an idea of how old his daughter is. I note that he signs for his daughter out of the Fourth/Fifth grade level binder, so that means the daughter has to be at least ten or eleven years old. The daughter comes up to her daddy, daddy picks her up in his arms and gives her a smooch on the lips.
Is this normal? I've never kissed my daughters on the lips, even when they were babies, but I know in some families they kiss their children on the lips.
But is this normal for a dad to kiss his ten/eleven year old daughter on the lips?
In some cultures it is very
In some cultures it is very common; even women kiss each other on the lips. I am sure the after school reps are aware - they would probably say something if they felt it was being done inappropriately.
Thanks for the replies, I
Thanks for the replies, I live in South Carolina, but am from the midwest.
I've never seen any parents kiss their kids on the lips even down here, but the dad does it right in front of the after school program director, so like you say I'm sure she would say something if she felt it was wrong.
Oh wow 41? Yeah, it seems
Oh wow 41?
Yeah, it seems very inappropriate to me, but I know different people have different cultures.
I was not raised that way so
I was not raised that way so I think its odd. I have a DD11 and BD4 and I don't kiss DD11 on the lips. Sometimes BD4 will kiss me on the lips but only to say goodnight.
DH's grandparents are from
DH's grandparents are from the south and grandpa ALWAYS kisses me on the mouth. I hate it, but I can't say anything to DH because he complained BM refused to go over there because grandpa kissed her on the lips. I don't want to appear rude but having an 87 yr old man kiss me on the mouth is just icky.
LMAO luckily, dear old
LMAO luckily, dear old granddad has them all! Still, it's just creepy to me you know? Of course, there's no creepy meaning behind it, he's one of the sweetest men I've ever met, but yeah, I reserve kissing men on the lips to my husband only
I also find bit odd that he
I also find bit odd that he picks he up. 4th grade is way too big to be picked up like a toddler. Esp everyday at pick up. I could see maybe if he hadn't seen his daughter in weeks or something...but everyday to pick her up and kiss her?
I don't even pick bs3 up everyday when I get him from daycare
Yeah, he picks her up so
Yeah, he picks her up so she's face level with him, they smooch and then he sets her back down. She's not small either, she probably comes to his shoulder. Granted, he's not that tall, but even so. Heck, I'm surprised she doesn't throw his back out when he picks her up, LOL.
When I first saw it I thought the same thing - that maybe he hadn't seen her in weeks, but I've seen him several times since then and have thought it rather odd at that age to still be kissing her on the lips. I can see kissing a toddler, or even a 5 or 6 year old. She just seems to be too big for her dad to still be kissing her on the lips.
My skids 2&6 alwasy go to
My skids 2&6 alwasy go to kiss me on the lips so I have to do a quick swerve to the cheek lol!! they are good kids, but are alwasy frigging ill! they kiss their dad on the lips and there is nothing wrong with it, its innocent and you can tell when its more!they go to kiss him on the lips, not the other way round if that makes sense. but girls tend to shy away when they get to that age of finding something embaressing etc.
I think it is completely
I think it is completely normal. Even my sd kisses me on the lips..or tries to, depending on my mood. I kissed both of my parents on the lips until about middle school.
I will say though, kissing my
I will say though, kissing my parents usually only happened at bedtime while saying goodnight. It is a little odd that they kiss like that at pick up. But not all together weird.
I was born in Michigan and
I was born in Michigan and mid-westerners are all hung up about sex. Haven't you see the painting of the farmer and his wife and the pitchfork? Try to kiss that dude and you'd get a tine in the eye.

It's just a cultural or even
It's just a cultural or even family differences. To me, lips are only for lovers. Some of DH's family kisses their kids on the lips but it's just how they've grown up. I don't even let SS kiss me on the head because it makes me cringe. But I don't kiss my own bio either because...lips are for lovers.
To each their own.
kissing on the lips is only
kissing on the lips is only for small children. unless in a romantic situation, beyond that kissing on the lips is just plain wrong.
You know what else dad has
You know what else dad has done with those lips he kissed you with? It's kinda nasty. Just some friendly advice Deer. The kid will stop kissing him on the lips and it will get back to Bm .
Nah, its not strange. It
Nah, its not strange. It would be strange if she did not want it and he made her thats different. Also im sure she wont be doing it in public once she hits middle school lol.
Or if a kid makes fun of her...
We used to kiss our grandparents when we were little... my grandma tried to kiss my dad all the time...lol. i still remember him saying "you have grandkids to kiss now leave me alone!" Lol. (Of course it was not on lips at that point, she would just try for a cheek)
What i think is weird is when
What i think is weird is when i see pictures of moms and sons kissing on FB!
First- you know they did not get that pic in one shot, so your making your kid smooch you till you get the money shot.
Two- a public kiss is like fast! A picture kiss is not fast you have to hold the pose to line up your phone. Ughhh
Three- its not cute- you look like your in a romantic kiss no matter how you pose!! Moms if you want to post a kissy pic, keep it to cheeks!!
Four- at some point your son will be grown and his girlfriend will be looking at you making out with him...
Ugh.. i kiss my son on his head because at 5 he said kissing on lips was for girls(i think grandma got him at school and he did not like that) lol..
