Think positive....... allrighty

I have been trying to be more positive when it comes to skids..... My positive for the day, it only cost me $1 for them to jump at the chance to haul in everything from my car (whole backseat was packed with stuff), take boxes downstairs and clean the backyard.... I would totally have sd6 clean the bathroom for another $1 but I find it disturbing to allow someone so young to use chemicals and having her touch the toilet when she is still at an age she touches her mouth and face too much.

But it teaches them that they don't need to contribute to their family, community, church or nation without compensation.

I've seen a kid raised like this. He won't get off the couch without a bribe and this is a 20 yo who complains he's not getting paid enough on his job and won't go to school to do better (presumably someone would have to pay him to go).

Depends on what else you do. We also do charity things with animal shelters, walks (breast cancer and autism walk) and other things. It is good to involve them in things that dont involve compensation, however its also important that they learn to earn money. My brother was given EVERYTHING without having to work for it and now he is 33 and living off everyone else and your the worst person in the world if you dont pity him and give him money when he needs it. I had to buy my first car, clothes..... EVERYTHING. I have worked since I was 15 years old, never lost a job and I am getting ready to graduate with my bachelor's degree. SO it depends on other things you do as well. They clean up after themselves for free but yes, they do work for money so they can learn to appreciate the fact they have to work for it.

Not only that but its much better than being like their mother and wealking around the house cleaning up after them and they are taught NOTHING. When I have them help clean up the house they get confused and ask why we need to clean it, there is no one here. I told them we dont just clean when people are coming over and the reply I get is "well we only clean when people are coming over to my moms". ICK! FDH is a cable installer and bm called the company and requested him to install it because she was too embarrassed for a stranger to see how nasty her house is.

I was brought up like that, I worked from 15, I appreciate everything and expect nothing, sometimes as a child I would feel hard done by when comparing myself and my friends, but being a parent isn't a popularity contest, your kids ar'nt always going to like you, but you know that you have their best interests at heart, now Im an adult I know that my parents gave me the best start in life, teaching a kid to help others to basically care is imperative to them having a happy and content life, rather that feeling entitled to everything without having to work for it and not caring how your actions effect others, I take my hat off to you.
