I posted yesterday about SD11 being(or not really being)sick...turns out she was just playing everyone to stay home from school...she did have a little cold, definately nothing to be out of school for. When I got home, she was watching a movie, texting and calling friends, wanting to go out and get pizza, wanting to go to a friends house, and on the computer Sad

I feel like a dumbass for even entertaining the thought that she might be sick when there was no fever (and knowing what a deceitful person she is). One time I didn't believe my son was sick and sent him to school and he really was very sick and now I'm gun shy I guess about not believing because I felt sooooooo bad when I didn't believe my son.

You see, a GOOD parent is suspicious of the shenanigans a child can get into. Whereas a BAD parent automatically assumes that his/her child is RIGHT no matter what and incapable of lying.

Don't beat yourself up. I once downplayed a toothache that Peg had since the dentist we were going to dismissed it. Turned out it was a abcessed tooth. Peg seems to have a high tolerance for pain and is not a whiner (another sign of good parenting) so I pampered her during the entire tooth mending process.

Seriously... this will cure "sick" if they are not.

At our house, if you are sick, you are in bed. Period. No TV. No electronics. No phone. You can read books and if we *actually* think you are sick you get radio. No iPod. If you claim stomach or digestive issues it is BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast - no butter or seasoning). No evening activities. Lots & lots of rest.

If they are faking, one time of this will usually clear it up pretty quickly. If we think they are faking, then we usually try to make it worse by having one of their favorite foods that night as well. They get "I'm sorry, you're not feeling well, remember. You need to eat bland foods that will help you feel better," and "I'm so sorry you can't (insert really cool activity here), but you're sick and you need to rest so you will feel better."
