When BP's can't agree?

most of you deal with high conflict BMs. For whatever reason, BM has recently stepped way back, but I don't believe a leopard can change it's spots. Anyway, for the past six years, DH has paid for everything regarding the skids. Occasionally, BM will pay him back, but it takes a long time for it to happen.

Fast forward to now, as things for us are tight financially. DH and I do our best to budget and plan for every expense we know is coming. Skid needs dental work. BM is pushing for DH to do it. However, it costs about three times what we have budgeted for, and BM isn't willing to anti-up. It's not an emergency and doesn't NEED to be done right now. The dentist says within the next six months it should be done. If DH and I save, we will have money to pay for it in about three months. BM thinks this is completely unreasonable. When DH said, "fine, you pay for it and we will pay you back." Now, BM is all defensive about it; saying she didn't mean to "drop the ball" and "there's no reason for her to be involved in any of it, since all she does is makes mistakes."

How would you handle it? Let it go? Respond? Wait?

Unless its braces or similar the dental work should be done quickly so I assume it's braces et.al.

Is she really broke and can't help or just being cheap? If she's being cheap and she's obviously concerned I'd play a bluff and tell her it can't be done by Daddy for perhaps a year and since he's paid everything else its time for her to step up.

You can always negotiate back down to 50/50 claiming he'll get a loan from the bank to get it done if she'll do her share. Once the precedent has been set he can keep it fifty fifty.

If she's broke then like any set of parents the one earning money pays the bills.
