Am I horrible for not ‘trusting’ this?
So, The Mister and I had planned to get out of Dodge for one night this past weekend a nice overnight trip to the Casinos’ and a show
SS27 (who still lives at home) said “if you want to get out early, I’ll handle the pick ups and drop offs for (My daughter 13) volunteer job Saturday morning

Friday night, we’re on our way to the Casino and he calls and says “DD13 asked if she could have a friend sleep over, I’m okay with keeping an eye on them, I’ll pick up a pizza, and whatever”

Saturday late afternoon, he text messages a picture of our garage… which he completely cleaned and organized (85% of the crap in there was his anyway)

Sunday, when we got home, he had $250 waiting for us

Then he told my husband that he’ll be giving him $250 every pay check (every two weeks) until he moves
He’s even been speaking to me, (somewhat) and said to the baby the other night, “don’t forget to say goodnight to grandmom”
He’s been so shitty for so long… he’s done nothing to contribute, has created fights over being told to clean up things like the bathroom once every two weeks, or to not leave dirty dishes in the sink... NOW he’s finally seen the light?
he's being nice to my kid, he's being (kind of)nice to me, he's doing chores around the house and in two weeks he's come up with $550 in rent money
(the first $350 was practically THROWN at my husband during a heated conversation about chores and responsibilties just a little over a week ago)
It's like someone waved a magic wand... or I'm dreaming and about to wake up

I understand your suspicion
I understand your suspicion since the last battle was just over a week ago. It's a rare change but sometimes people can hear something or experience a life-changing thing, just one time and they'll have a complete turn-around. You may not know what that thing is -maybe a good friend talked to him and it clicked- but it could be genuine. I'll say this: Ride this out and see what happens. Don't say anything to deride or show your doubt. His true colors will show ultimately.

The Mister is going out of town for a few days and this is usually when he favors stirring the pot
so I will keep my fingers crossed that maybe he had an "aha" moment, an epiphany, maybe seeing all of his friends go off, get married, get HOMES of their own, or at least apartments of their own is some sort of impetus for great change
