Boundary Crossed?

Disillusioned's picture

Yesterday DH is reading the birthday card that he received in the mail from YSD

She says "Happy Birthday Dad, you're turning 59 but you still look good in tight jeans" :? :? :?

Even DH was a little surprised and was like "what?" but of course laughed it off

I was a little caught off guard when DH read that, not something you expect a 28 year old woman to say to her father :? but then maybe it's just me

Anyone else find that a little weird?

Your SD sounds weird to me!

I've told my dad "You were a hottie-patottie back in the day!" which of course is a back-handed compliment because I always tease him now how he's a little old frail man.

Then again my dad once told me his "friends" were taking "that little blue pill" [viagra] and he didn't get it because it just makes you turn red in the face for nothing.

Ew, Dad. TMI.

Add that to the list of $hit My Dad Says

Sounds like something a wife or girlfriend would say, not a daughter. She sounds weird.

Probably not the first time he received an inappropriate b-day card. Mr. Guilty Daddy used to get them all the time. The last one was "from the skids" (TM) with a picture of a Jack Russell terrier with his eyes popping out, entitled "You're HOW OLD???!!"

Now coming from an adult (which it kind of was--the juvenile BM picked it out as a "jab") it would have been comedic. But supposedly coming from a PASed out 12, 10 and 7 yr old, at the time, was COMPLETELY disrespectful (as usual) IMHO.

it's weird but if it's isolated I wouldn't put too much thought into it.

Maybe SD was in a hurry and grabbed the first one she found thinking "ha" and thought of it as funny not inappropriate.

If it's not an isolated incident then  what can you really do though if they don't get it by 28 years old?

She had to have written that in herself. I don't think there's a pre-printed card specifically for 59 yr. olds.

I agree with the ladies and reach for the little going-to-get-sick button.

My stepdaughter calls her dad by his first name. Double ACK.

I'm hoping that was all it was omgsaveme...but a part of me worries too that she actually meant it!

I think both of DH's daughters are mini-wives, but in different ways 20YearsAsStep-Mom...while DH's eldest daughter needs to be 'more important' to him than I, YSD needs to be seen as attractive, dizzy, nice, sexy etc however it's like she's confused the line of daughter/girlfriend sometimes

YSD has said/done things that made me wonder before, but she's generally pretty good and we get along just fine, so generally I just brush things like this off. This is one of those things but still ya just sat sort of funny with me!

Yes StepAside I agree, what she wrote is what a girlfriend might say but not a 28 year woman to her father. DH obviously had the same reaction as me because he got this embarrassed surprised look on his face and said "what?"....it gave me the same feeling as I get when someone is trying to hit on my husband. It was a flirty comment and weird for a daughter to say that to her own father

Send her a sympathy card..

"OH MY SYMPATHIES
I'M SORRY YOUR BOYFRIEND CHEATED
ON YOU WITH HIS WIFE!"

That was a really twisted card she sent.
serious issues. I hope your DH was embarrassed.
