Let the lazy one pout!

Girl is batting a thousand since DH and I argued!

A couple of months ago, I had to pay to have a plumber snake the lines because the kitchen sink stopped draining. When I'd did this, I told DH that it probably didn't help that over the years, the kids have put food down the drain even tough we don't have a disposal! I never mentioned any names, but SD15 went on immediate defense saying she NEVER puts food in the sink (though she has been guilty of this many, many times)!

I go to get a glass of water, and I see SD15's bowl in the sink as well as the boyfriend's bowl from last night! I'm already upset that they are in the sink, as SD15 KNOWS she is supposed to rinse her dishes and put them in the dishwasher, and that goes for the dishes of any of her guests, too! The boyfriend's bowl was on top...no water in it (remember the color of the bowls they were using). I picked it up and underneath was SD15's bowl...which she filled with water with at least 8 bites of food still in it! You can't just poor this whole thing in the trash like this! DH was "indisposed" and having had a headache all day and the crap she has already been pulling, I had enough! I called her to the kitchen and asked her, "do we have a garbage disposal?" Answer was no. I showed her the bowl and asked her then why there was food in my sink. No response! I told her to clean it up WITHOUT putting the food down the drain, telling her I wasn't spending money to have a plumber snake the pipe again...pointing out that she doesn't have the money either, so if it gets clogged again, maybe I would just have to sell all her devices on eBay to pay to clear it!

DH came out and wondered what was going on. I explained that SD15 was trying to cost us another plumbing bill, and he looked at her and told her to get with it! She was disgusted having to pick up all the food from the sink with her hands! Maybe if she weren't so lazy! Guess she thought some someone else would clean it for her, which DH has been doing with the messes she leaves everywhere. Not this time!

She stomped back to her room when she finished...probably hates me...oh well!

We have the same issue at our house. We don't have a disposal either. I came home today and it was SS15's turn to do the dishes this morning. I look in the sink and there is a complete strip of bacon and about a cup of scrambled eggs sitting in the sink. I tell SS15 to go clean it. He takes a fit and starts screaming, saying that it was one of the other ones that put that in there. Fine I SAY! BUT you're the one who is doing the dishes! So he walked in there, took out the piece of bacon, put it in the trash and ran the water over the eggs until they went down the drain!!!!!! I am still pissed

For the price of a plumber you could get a disposal but maybe you've got a septic tank or something. Also a plumbers "snake" can be purchased at any hardware store and is easy to use. Try using a plunger on the sink, like you've seen used in toilets but buy one just for the sink and leave it under the sink so it doesn't get used in a toilet.

There are more germs in kitchens than in bathrooms anyway but you gals couldn't stand it so get a special one.

Maybe your sink drain has a screw receptor in the middle of the permanent drain screen. Screw down a permanent screen from the hardware store. Large pieces of food can't go down through it.

I'm glad Daddy is stepping in unfortunately what she learned is that she needs to stuff it down the drain instead of leaving it and by the way moving the garbage can closer won't help unless its literally in arms reach on the sink which I've seen in kitchens. A plastic bag is used inside the container.

Teens find it excruciating to move, its in the muscles, they ache horribly when its a chore while amazingly are pain free when running around a amusement park or chasing the opposite sex. One of the miracles of nature no scientist has been able to explain.

We do have a septic, so yeah...disposal would cause a larger nightmare. When it clogged the first time, we tried snaking ourselves, but it wasn't long enough apparently. The clog was way down the line in the piping!

I need to look for something she can't remove, but I'm sure it won't stop her. She will still put food in the sink. I'm personally shocked that she didn't try to blame it on BS19!

LOL...love your last comment! There seems to be a similar phenomenon with a teen's hearing and sight! You know...they can walk past their dirty socks in the hallway for weeks and not see them, but let there be a $10 bill lying in a parking lot, and they will see it 5 cars away!

It has taken this girl all freakin' weekend to do 5 loads of laundry and put it away. Not that it should have, but she keep saying she is done, and DH goes back there and there is still a pile! What part of wash and put away ALL the clothes doesn't she get? And she alone has 5 full loads of laundry? But she always claims she doesn't have ANY clothes!! Truth is, she just doesn't want to wash...poor thing...it's all dirty so she needs new ones! Guess who isn't getting any new clothes for a good long time!!!

I've needed popcorn for today...quite the show! SD15 has been flat out ignoring what DH has told her to do, and he has had to be on hr butt all day! Amazing thing...first time that room has even been close to clean in at least a couple of years, and she has all kinds of space with all that clothing put away! Seems she doesn't need that bigger room after all! LOL

LOL...you know...I was so thinking I wanted to dump it in her room somewhere when I saw it! I mean seriously...hadn't done anything at the kitchen sink all day...go to get a glass of water, look down, and think, "Are you freakin' kidding me?" It would be one thing if she were 5, but she is 15! And this whole thing was brought up not that long ago! The day the plumber came out, I told her that evening that the sink was usable again and specifically said, "Do NOT put any food down the drain!" This was just a couple of months ago! She again denied ever putting food in the sink even then, but this is like the third time I've found food in the sink since! Both times it was something she was eating (cereal one day and Ramen another).

Laziness at its best! Oh, yeah...how could I possibly expect her to remember that she was told not to put food down the sink? She's slept since then, and certain teens have this brain defect that causes their memory to leak while the sleep! You never know what will fall out!

Let's not forget paint and other household repairs. SD15 is still trying to get us to allow her room to be painted some crazy dark color...you know, one that would require extra work to ever get the walls back to a neutral eggshell color if we decide to sell the house (it is harder to sell a house that isn't neutral colors). Every time she is told no, she has a fit!

It wasn't a case of too big a bowl...she only got a small helping because it was healthy food she didn't like and DH was making her eat. DH has finally agreed with me no more junk food for SD15. It was probably retaliation for making her eat healthy food...DH nixed the pizza idea, because he actually wanted real food (and SD15 buys pizza for lunch every day). I made this easy jambalaya that I happened to have the stuff to make (easy, cheap, and makes a lot). The boyfriend said it was really good, DH had two helpings...SD15 poked at it making faces (like how dare she have to eat meat, beans, etc)! At like 4 bites. Last I saw the bowl, it was sitting on the table in the TV room. Didn't realize until this morning she didn't actually put the stuff in the dishwasher but just put the food in the sink.

I'm going to look for some type of screen she can't simply remove to force food down the drain. Paper plates? I'm NOT spending extra money because SD15 is too darn lazy! That would just reinforce the laziness!

I too fought the paper plates idea for awhile. But now that I caved? Never been happier. Lost that battle, but not the war Smile

Well, the clean room was very shortly lived! The last two loads of laundry she did are in a pile now in a pile in front of the dresser, and are starting to be spread across the floor. I looked in the dresser...only two drawers of the five are half full. The closet, there is still a mountain on the bottom of it, and the bar is not even half full with clothing. Not enough room my ass! Guess she really wouldn't mind if I put the water bottles I found under the end table in the corner of MY TV room (seems she has just been throwing them under there instead of the trash) in her room, right?

CantKeepDoingThis's picture

That should keep her from plopping her butt in front of the TV when SD15 gets home. I have taken the remotes from the TV room and I have them in my office with me. I know she will not dare come ask me about them. There is a good chance that DH will go hang out with a friend of his tonight. If he does, I'm shutting down the internet, too, when I'm done working! She won't dare ask about that, either...she will think it just went out like it does from time to time. I won't say anything about the room...but I'm not going to help her shun the job that DH told her to do. Guessing she will just go to sleep...not my problem...LOL.

CantKeepDoingThis's picture

Bad thing is, kids are so spoiled and lazy these days, without the remotes, they don't even know how to operate the thing! LOL

CantKeepDoingThis's picture

I didn't even get to take joy in my plan! Sad

SD15 went to a friend's house straight off the bus. She texted DH who said it was okay not realizing she threw the rest of her clothing on the floor! I brought this to his attention when I talked to him. She is supposed to get straight to putting her clothes away when she finally gets home...she won't! Guess I get to take pleasure tomorrow making the TV and internet inaccessible!

CantKeepDoingThis's picture

Will certainly need to hide the remotes tomorrow! 2 hours, and she still isn't done! The amount of clothing that was there I could have had put away in 30 minutes! DH tried the "she doesn't know how" excuse...told him straight up, "You know that is bullshit! She is 15!!! Problem really is that she is doing more texting than folding!" Seriously...tonight I washed, dried, and put away the same amount of laundry that she only had to put away in the same amount of time she has supposedly spent folding only, and she isn't done! We looked while she was in the shower...she can't say she is out of room, as the dresser still has 2 empty drawers and plenty of room in the closet!

I will make sure she has no TV or internet tomorrow afternoon! I'll use my work hot spot and turn off the house internet! I'll keep away TV and internet access all week if I have to!

After her shower, SD15 came out to tell DH she was going to bed. He got on her case about not being done with her laundry yet. I told her since she was heading back through the kitchen on her way back to her room, she could collect all her trash from under the end table and throw it away. She huffed at me, "I don't see what the big deal is!" Told her, "I don't appreciate you trashing my house!"

Pouted all the way back to her room as dear daddy isn't protecting her any more!

PRICELESS!!! I heard SD15 go into the TV room, so I had to take a peek. She was looking all between the couch cushions for the TV remote! I wanted to start laughing, but quietly went back into my office! She is supposed to be folding her clothing, NOT watching TV...that is specifically what DH told her last night. Waiting for her to give up and go back to her room.

CantKeepDoingThis's picture

Lazy update!!!! Want to give y'all a bit of a chuckle...or at least an excuse to do a face palm!

SD15 is sitting in the TV room yesterday...her usual end of the couch. A Starbucks cup from SUNDAY is still sitting on the end table at that end of the couch...at least it is empty. As she goes to get up to go to her room, her elbow hits it, and it falls to the floor. She just looks at it, and then walks off!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! It is still sitting there! It is too much work to bend down and pick it up, and drop it in the trash as you walk right by it on the way back to your room? I'm wondering how long it will take for DH to realize it and make her pick it up, or pick it up himself.

Last night, the princess was REALLY pouty! We had to go to church for praise team practice for Sunday...being it is Easter and all. I was personally dreading leaving SD15 home by herself, as both DH and I needed to be there. To my surprise, DH MADE SD15 come to praise practice to just sit there! HA! I hadn't said anything to him. I'm guessing he doesn't trust her home alone, either (or he just wanted to make sure that she just didn't go to bed like other days when we are home). Love it! She sat there pouting the hole time, texting on her phone. I'm sure she was telling the boyfriend how bored she was, and that she couldn't believe she couldn't just stay home.

SD15 is going to BM's tonight, as they are out of school tomorrow for Good Friday. Thank goodness! DH is picking her up Saturday evening...supposedly. I was actually a bit worried I'd be stuck her with me on Saturday. There are some special release vinyls coming out ONLY on Saturday (it is national record store day). It has me going down into the city, and if SD15 was at home, DH would make me take her, calling it "bonding time"! YUCK! She surely would have tried to get to to go other stores to buy her something, or would have tried to get me to buy her a record (Lady GaGa or something), even though she doesn't even have a player. She would just think it "cool", but would leave it on her floor or something until it was broken! What a relief she is going to BM's!
