I'm very excited-I pickup my books & meet my instructor tomorrow!

And I made it clear to H that this is my priority. I will not fail this because of interference.

So-girls, I haven't been to school in decades. But! I did have to take insurance class and pass the exam-that was about 7 years ago..and I did have to learn two new jobs in the last two years-one working with chemicals, which was totally foreign to me-and I succeeded. So I know the ol brain cells aren't totally dead.

Gonna eat alot of walnuts & salmon! Dr. Oz said they're brain food-along with olive oil. Hmmm. Also fish oil, B vitamins...I'm going shopping tomorrow!

I'm so glad that you didn't let his efforts to stop you be a success. Go you!

I can't wait to see how you like being back in a class room. It'll be like the twilight zone! Wink

I wish I had the gump to go back.

Actually, I've wanted to do this for 15 years-but never got it done. First, wanted to after my divorce. But my youngest son gave up so much to live with me instead of his father. Dad meant a big house, three wheelers, farm, new things all the time. Mom meant stuggling, working after school, but lots of love. And he chose mom.

So I couldn't place us in a positon of even worse poverty by going to school. Then he grew up. And I had payments to make-no extras. In fact, on the salary I was earning, my savings was nearly gone. My 401K lost in the stock market.

So this is the first real chance I feel I've ever had to do this. And in todays economy, I haven't been able to find a job with the skills I currently possess. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise-it's what opened my mind, again, after all these years, of going for it.

Because any and every weekend she is here-guess what? I'm going to have to be studying....Sooooo-I'll just close myself up in the computer room with my books, snacks, (ok, walnuts), my Max, and study merrily away! Wink

That's been my experience, anyway...

The more you are "available" to cater to their every whim (and this goes for Biokids in my case, too), the more you are taken for granted...

When you SERIOUSLY are getting on with YOUR OWN affairs, the "light goes on" that THEY (kids) aren't NUMBER ONE ALL THE TIME!!

That's what I've learn to do when the adult SDs are here...I usually have OTHER THINGS TO DO....they get their "daddy" time, and I get stuff done, often with my own BD. And, know what, they now "miss me" if I am not here, well, because "daddy" misses me...

Your life is going to CHANGE so much, and then YOU WILL GET TO DECIDE if YOU WANT TO "accept their apologies".....

I went back to school myself as a SOTA (Student Older Than Average) though that is not too big a deal when you are at the early end of the SOTA designation. SOTA classification starts at 26. I was 26 when I went back full time and graduated at with my BS at 30 and again with my MBA at 36.

If your experience holds true to mine as a returning student you will have a great time and find yourself significantly more focused than you were when you were younger.

You have done the hard part of going back to school. Filling out the application and registering is the tough part. The rest is just a matter plugging away at it until you graduate. And the time will fly I am sure.

One thing that I learned helped me was the Bold Print Method. Instead of reading every word in every text read the chapter intro and summary and any margin notes, photo captions and bold print in the chapter. When you work the assigned homework problems from the section you will pick up what you need beyond the bold print to complete the problems. It saves significant time and gives you a conversational level of knowledge on the chapter material to participate in class discussions as well as the knowledge to base comments and questions on.

What school are you going to and what are you studying if you don't mind my asking? I have to hit school again to finish the course work for my PMP and have been considering either Law School or a PhD. My wife and I have been talking about going back together.

Good luck, hang in there and best regards,

I'm currently (as of Monday) starting the prereq's for Respiratory Therapy. It's a 2 year program at the local college here.

I had been looking at nursing college, 30 miles away, until I found this program. They will accept my application for fall enrollment based on my enrollment in the prereq's. The nursing college, however, would not. I would have to get the prereq's done this year, and wait until March of 2010 to apply, thereby losing a year. This way, I can get these pre's done -A & P are January thru May, Med. Term. is May thru Aug-and start class Aug. of 09.

Personally, just from reading your posts-I think you'd be superb in law school. Or perhaps you could consider psychology? We'd all be dragging our H's to get Raggerized Lol

If SOTA means student older than average and that starts at 26, they'll have to come up with a new term for me!

has COPD. And at Christmas, just the few hours she was over here combined with the cold air, turned her nearly blue. She is on oxygen on a as needed basis...

Anyway, if things here don't improve, get thee to law school. I'll probably be your first client!

I am proud of you for making sure H knows where your priorities lie. RT is a hot job right now and just think...if you find employment in a hospital, most have tuition reimbursement, so you can go to nursing school further down the road. It's a win-win situation for you!

tuition reimbursement, huh? I know my instructor indicated she was a Respiratory Therapist and a Nurse as well...that would be wonderful. Especially since I would love to return to the coast one day-there are alot of retirees there, alot of need for medical care.

As one who leaped for the net after my divorce to re-enroll in college myself...

I remember how completely exhilarating it was to be doing something so profoundly life changing, something that requires so much self confidence, and strength!

I wish I had your phone number! I wanna call you tonight and see how it went!
