OT~~ Twilight.

BMJen's picture

I'm obsessed with the Twilight saga. I mean hands down, freaking obsessed. With the movies that is.......I wish I could read the books but I seriously don't have the time. Have you ever seen those books? They are bigger than the bible. I mean it would take me six months to get through one of them, and by that time a new movie is coming out!

The whole undying love, that beats all the odds, it just amazes me.

Is anyone else out there as much in love with these movies as I am?

I feel like a little girl again. I used to want to be Aerial so bad I couldn't stand it. I would go to bed dreaming of living under the sea! LOL! Now I actually catch myself thinking about how great it must be to be Bella in that movie. Of course, the real girl is a actress and isn't going to be a vampire! BUT......I actually day dream about these movies. I swear I'm like 6 years old again.

It's really odd for me to be so stupid over a movie. Especially a teen age vampire movie! LMAO! But I'm just plain hooked.

Go for the audio books, great to be able to take a book and go!
And yes, Twilight is addictive...

I've got to admit that I like RPatz!

I haven't read the books but my SDs love twilight too and they have Twilight posters all over their rooms. I have taken the kids to see the movies, though. I really liked those!

BMJen's picture

SD 15 is just as obsessed with it as I am. I keep buying her Twilight stuff.........I say her because I have to give it away. I don't think DH wants to look at a Edward doll in the bedroom! LMAO!!

If I wasn't grown I'd so have the posters all over my room to.

So far I've gotten her both movies, Edward and Bella barbies, a skin for her lap top that has all three main people on it, a Twilight T shirt, a Twilight poster, Twilight stickers, Twilight necklace, and Twilight socks.

She finally told me to stop buying her Twilight stuff. Now I'm going to have to buy it and hide it in my room! LOL

The books are awesome! If you read them before you see the movie, then you know exactly what everyone is thinking, how their feeling, it's truely incredible. I love them. So, start on the third book! It's awesome. And theres something that happens in the fourth one that will completely shock you! It's unbelievabe... I would recomend to read the last two. The forth is a jaw dropper. There's so many twists and turns. I read the WHOLE thing in 16 hours. I couldn't put it down it was that good. I read through a migrane and everything.

OMG HeavenLeigh, what happens??????? No, don't tell me. Yes, tell me!!!!!!! Tell me!!! No, don't tell me. Damn it, I'm going to have to go get the book tomorrow.

My main concern is that she chooses Edward.

But, my spidey senses are up right now because she kept having a dream about the forrest and she would wake up screaming each and every time. Her other dream came true about the Valtorie, so what is going on in the forrest? I hope Edward doesn't get jacked. That would have me crying for a loooong time!!

Nemo's picture

O0ooooo I want to tell you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad, but it would totally ruin it! OH MAN! I want to sooo bad!

But I will tell you that she chooses Edward. and Jacob, well he meets some one too and imprints on her... But it's all part of the big shock!

I totally agree!! I read all the books before the movies, and they really do make a HUGE difference!! Yeah, they are big books, but I also read through them in a short period. They're hard to put down! Smile I'm so excited for the 3rd movie to come out! I just hope they are able to fit everything in (I thought they cut too much out of New Moon)!

OMG- I have SO been waiting for someone else to bring this up, but my Twilight life is seperate from my "mom" life, and if I'm gonna Twilight blog, I have other places to go...

READ THE BOOKS.... Or at least go to your local library and get them on DVD to listen to them. They are so amazing, and the words just jump off the page, making a whole new world and set of friends for you to meet.

For me, I had to see it. Forks, Washington. It was so real on the page, I wanted to see it. Loghead seemed to accept my love for Edward- I think he was happier with the idea of my crush on an 100+ vampire than an 18 year old teen wizard. I wouldn't shut up about seeing Forks. So he sent me there. Last summer, a girlfriend and I flew to Seattle and then rented a car and spent time in Port Angeles and then Forks. It is the most AMAZING place on this country. It is so beautiful...

Side note- Last summer I took part in a research study at an area university. The study showed women in happy marriages choose Jacob and unhappy marriages choose Edward.
I fell in love with Edward during one of the lowest points in my marriage.

Now that I've read the book three times, and am in a happier place, I think Jacob is a better mate.

(I also had the chance to teach at another local university a lit class for high school girls to receive college credit for reading Twilight and comparing it to Romeo and Juliet and Pride and Prejudice. Class again this summer for high school girls in the state of Missouri if anyone is interested...)

Anyone who wants Twilight talk can PM me!

"I HAD to pick the road less traveled..."

Last-Wife's picture

FYI- It was just announced this week that Stephenie Meyer has written a short novel from the newborns' point of view of the events in Seattle during Eclipse. It will be released on June 6.

And yes, I have a whole shelf in our bedroom devoted to Twilight. If Loghead can keep his ax collection (don't ask) on his side of the bed, I can keep Edward, Jacob and Emmett on my shelf...

I like Twilight more than Princess. She does have a t-shirt made up that says "Mom and I share imaginary boyfriends, and Dad's OK with that."

For my 36 bday 2 weeks ago, all I got was Twilight stuff! LOL

I'm so jealous that you saw Forks. Man I want to go there to! How obsessed is that? You love it so much you went there! LOL! I think you have me beat by far, but I love me some Twilight!

I'm def. going to have to get the book, first thing tomorrow!

I seriously feel like a little kid again when I watch those movies. I watch them over and over like my two year old does Dora! LOL

I got hooked about 1 1/2 years ago. I couldn't sleep for a week. I read all four back to back. I couldn't put them down. My house was a mess, we ate lots of take-out, I have no idea what clothes my kids wore, my students had lots of extended reading time... I wouldn't stop talking about them, so all the other teachers started reading them.

We had shirts made up that said "Who has time for laundry? I'm reading Twilight!" and we all wore them to see the movie.

While I agree Stephenie has great character development and has the ability to make such bizarre things seem real, there is something special to these stories. Her book The Host is not nearly as good.

I love you ladies but the whole twilight thing makes me want to stab.myself.in.the.eyes! I watched the first movie out of curiosity and hated it. Watched the second one because I loved the idea of the werewolves that actually looked like wolves and hated that one almost as much. It's so mind numbingly boring. Because of those crappy movies, I refuse to read the books. I mean a sparkling vampire? C'mon!

I hope no one murders me for these comments *glancing around*

My brother's gf had the books...so being bored last summer and not being able to sleep with a newborn and 2 others running around I read alot. I read all of the books in less than a week. I LOOOVVVVEEEE Twilight Saga. I have read it like 2 or 3 times since and I can't help it...I keep going back to it. I am normally a romance or real crime novel gal but there is just something about Twilight. And it was funny when hubs and I saw New Moon on dvd....I explained it all to him and he was like WTF maybe I should read the books too...lol...so not going to happen but I love the saga. Although, I have to say I like the books better than the movies...and the way you picture things in your head are sooo different from what they put into the movie.
Def a must read series!

BMJen's picture

Okay, so being that I haven't read any of the books............should I start from book 1 or go ahead to book 3 being that I saw both movies??

I'm going to trust you guys on this and actually take the advice this time. Wink

So tell me what to do here. Will it make it all better if I read 1 and 2, or go ahead and hit 3 up and then go back for 1 and 2?

I love reading his brothership with Emmett. They crack me up!

"I HAD to pick the road less traveled..."

Last-Wife's picture

OK- re: my earlier comment about unhappy marriages and Edward

It was my fascination with Edward that did make me realize maybe things weren't quite right between Loghead and myself... Ever notice how Bella really doesn't seem to have any option but Edward? You have to admit, he is somewhat controlling.

It's like when I fell for Loghead. I knew he had kids. I knew I couldn't get too involved with him because eventually the kids would become a part of our dating as well. It almost had to happen fast. How can a man with kids aged 2,3 and 5 at the time have free time to date? It was like I had to make my mind up fast- decide if I really loved him. I knew it was SERIOUS LIKE, but I don't know that I really loved him by the time I got to know the kids. Then it was too late. I loved them. There was a point where I knew I needed to leave, but I was too involved with the kids to leave.

When I first read Twilight, I saw a lot of my husband in Edward. I thought Jacob was just a pain in the ass teenage boy, trying to cause trouble. I didn't see until the 2nd read through of the whole series that he really loved her. And I sat and cried. At that point, I'd read the books 2, so I knew the final outcome. And I knew the choices made. Loghead and I'd had a huge fight, and in fact Princess and I were out of town that night, staying with family, partly because I needed to be away from Loghead. I cried for Bella and myself. I saw that Jacob would have been an easier choice. Growing old together, having kids, still being with her family. When I married Loghead, I lost family. Seriously, I have 5 family members that I was very close to who have hardly spoken 20 words to me in the 12 years we have been married. I gave that up. Bella gives up many things. And yes, Bella and I both gained a helluva a lot too, but it isn't easy. And if Bella's story continues past Breaking Down, there will be more hardships to face. Just as I have faced the seperation between me and my skids as they've become teenagers, and the pain of "losing" those 5 people I loved.

So yeah, Edward's great and he loves her. But Jacob loves her too, and she never really gives that a chance. Edward admits he's being selfish.

Loghead and I have had similar conversations. He always wants to know if I regret my decision, if he should have let me go...

And I don't have an Alice to tell me this will all work. The last three weeks have been great around here, but the months before where hell.

I secretly find myself wishing she'd had more time with Jacob, but still had the other Cullens around. She lost a lot when she lost Alice, and that wasn't fair...

"I HAD to pick the road less traveled..."

BMJen's picture

Wow. You just made me so amazingly sad that I can't stand it. Can I be your "Alice"? Seriously, you can't feel alone honey, you have all of us!! And granted, it may be nothing but a pack of vampires, we still love you! And you still fit in.

I'm going to talk to you how you just spoke to me.

I had my Edward........he left everything for me as I had to do for him. I live it now, every day. I had a Jacob. A seemingly innocent boy that was a huge part of my life. I left him behind, for my wiser and older man that I love so much. I don't regret it. Do I feel a little older because of my choices, sure do. He's 17 years older than me.........sometimes I get wrapped up in being older and forget how old I really am. Then I snap right back, and remember that this is the life that I chose. He is some one that I could NOT live without, and whatever I had to give up to have him I was more than willing to do. My reputation, my kids respect, people that I don't even know looking at me as though I have horns growing out of my forehead, etc. I gave alot up. So did DH. I think I get so wrapped up in what all I gave up that I forget what he went through to be with me. But his main concern, like Edward's, was what impact this would all have on ME. Wow........amazing love.

No matter what happens I won't give up my amazing love. He's my Johnny Cash, my Wyatt Earpp, my Edward. He's my undying love and no matter what I have to give, or no matter he has to give, NOTHING will keep us apart.

You have to look at what you do have, not what you could have had. You guys are the story........you're the undying love. Don't lose that. It's great, it's what is going to get you thru all the hard times you may ever face.

PS..........when does she lose Alice? Are you talking about when they all leave and she writes Alice letters every day?

PSS...........I love that Dh is a little on the controlling side. I dig it. Turns me on.... Wink

belleboudeuse's picture

Nicely interpreted, Tired. I definitely see that. I personally think Jacob is a brat. And Edward loves her, for sure. But, Bella is just so damned willing to give up everything, her whole life, everything she's ever known, to be a tiny part of his universe. She doesn't even question what she might be losing. Like us.

Oh, ladies, don't get me wrong. Even though it's been a tough road, I love my husband. IT was funny; when he first realized I had a crush on Edward, he sent me roses with a card that said, "Will you still love me even if I'm not a vampire? I can be your Edward."

He is my Edward. I love him unconditionally (and take the crap that goes with it at times), but I am wise enough to see that there were easier choices to make, but I know every day I made the right one for ME.

I've read all 4 Twilight books before the movies were thought of, and I loved the books. I watched the first movie and HATED IT. I think if I had watched the movie first, I would have probably been ok with it. I won't be watching any of the other movies. Sad

If anyone didn't already know, or if it hasn't already been mentioned, Stephanie Meyer started writing "Midnight Sun". Basically Twilight from Edwards perspective. Unfortunately someone leaked it and she hasn't finished writing it because she is so pissed off. She has made the leaked version available on her website however. I've read it, and it's friggin amazing. Check it out if you have already read Twilight.

Also her short novel on Bree Tanner that is coming out will be available for free on her website for a few days.

Yeah, but I'm all about the midnight book party!

The idea that people actually gather at midnight for a BOOK absolutely amazes me! My crazy group of Twilighters have already started planning our midnight book event, and then a few weeks later, the movie.

BTW- New Moon opened on the night of a new moon. Eclipse opens on the day of a huge eclipse that will be experienced by most of North America...

I went through all 9 in a week and a half on my Kindle. I'm vampire CRAZY. I also like Sookie (yes that's her name) better than Bella, she is a way stronger woman.

belleboudeuse's picture

Jen, you have to read them. They are all a really quick read. You will love them. Seriously.

Uhoh Belle. I am in love with the Mormon faith. Love it. I never thought of this until you just said it, but wow, it really kind of rings true. Hummmmm.................food for thought.

Rainbow.Bright's picture

I knew that, only because the author lives near me and she is in all the local news. The church was not very happy with her about these books if you can beleive it.

Yes, I don't think they take kindly to all these teenage girls falling in love with the undead and all. Smile I'm not religious myself but still loved them. Edward is kind of a prude.

belleboudeuse's picture

Yeah, exactly. Because vampires have always signified death, satan, the dark.

But Stephenie Meyer, being culturally Mormon, twists it to being about staying true and committed to the one you are fated to be with. I think it's interesting how the Mormons are angry with her, but in fact, in mainstream culture, you can so read the story (ESPECIALLY the books) as being about how the right man will be the one who will not compromise your purity.

****There are 3 sides to every story. Yours, mine, and the truth.**** -THE WIFE

BMJen's picture

I have a whole different take on it all. I don't think that these vampire signify death, darkness, the devil. I think that it just goes to show you that you can't always group one person in with what they are.

Yes I may be a "homewrecker" but I'm a loyal loving wife who will die in the place of my husband at any time. I think it's a point that society is way to fast to judge.

It's a whole family of Vampires, blood suckers, but they love and care for others more than most of the human kind.

Thats my take on it all! Wink

Rainbow.Bright's picture

I see it as harmless. As a culture we've always been curious about the possibility of eternal life, super human powers and the idea of eternal love. It's not a wonder why these books are so popular.

I've always loved vampire mythology and fiction, Anne Rice and Charlaine Harris are more seasoned authors than Stephanie Meyers and have more mature subject matter but I love all of their writing styles. I think if any books encourage people to read, especially teen agers, then what is the problem!

Last-Wife's picture

Purity and chastity.

Yea, it's a great read for our young girls, because it does promote waiting.

Even though Bella still tries to get closer to Edward every chance she gets. Who wouldn't!?

LOL.... I did! I HATED it! I know, I know, I know... everyone else loved it. Believe me, my cousin gives me the worst time about it because she is a hard core Twilight lover and the 4th book was her favorite too! I don't know what it was that turned me so far off but ~blech~ ESPECIALLY beause now I see Robert Pattinson's face when I think of Edward and that just pushed me over the edge with it. I think he is repulsive!!

**So now I'm stepping back over to Platform 9 & 3/4 and hopping the train back to Hogwarts!** Wink

Lol yea, I don't think he's very attractive either, but the story line is what kept me going... I also read the books before I knew who the characters were going to be, so he's alot more attractive in my mind... There's just something about his face... But I still love them.

I mean, if you hated any of them it should have been the second one. That one made me cry! *I'm a big ball baby by the way, I cry over EVERYTHING* But the 4TH ONE! How could you hate it?! Who would have ever thought in a MILLION years that THAT would have happen? (I'm trying not to be to specific cuz, BMjen doesn't know what THAT is yet)

What did you not like about it? and if your 2 specific, email me! I could talk about this for days!

I didn't get my letter to Hogwarts, which is why I went to Forks last summer.

Seriously? I think my husband is a little worried about what seems to be my fascination with young British actors who play book characters in movies...

Um, I hate to tell him that Percy Jackson was cute too!

I should discuss my crushes on fictional characters with the therapist...

And I didn't really like book 4 either. Almost stopped...

Eclipse is my favorite. It's when we see that Jacob does love Bella, and the two boys manage a weak friendship for her sake. The tent... The one scene I can't wait to see!

THANK YOU. The acting is so terrible. It reminds me of Ben Stein talking. Shoot me in the face.

Now Taylor Lautner... that's a cradle I'd like to rob. Except maybe with a bag over his face... he just looks too young. Where's stepmom008 when I need her photoshopping skills?

Without a doubt Silver... one of the worst acted films OF ALL TIME!!! I wanted to stab out my own eyes at the theater!!! lol

I totally agree with you. In the movies, Edward is hairy and skinny, ew. And Bella looks and acts like she has to take a dump all the time. I hated the movie.

Wicked............tsk tsk tsk. You're so not my twin. Wink Just kidding, I guess we are allowed to not agree on ONE thing. Smile

You HAVE to read the books. They are so much better than the movies. Don't get me wrong...I love the movies but the books are so much more in depth!!!

Yeah! I finally got my new picture up of me, standing at the OFFICIAL "Welcome to Forks" sign, as seen in the movie.

You can't see it very well, but I am holding "Edward on a Stick." My friend took her favorite Edward picture and enlarged it onto cardboard at a copy shop and attached it to a paint stick. We had lots of fun with Edward...
