First wedding dress fitting with skids
I had my first wedding dress fitting yesterday. I was planning to go myself. SO called on his way home with SD15 and SD12 and said not to leave the house yet because they wanted to come.
I warned the girls it would not be very exciting....I will be standing there in the dress while she pins and cuts, but they really wanted to come. They have never seen my dress in person, only in pictures. They seemed to have fun. They looked around at the other dresses in the store while I got changed. When I had the dress on, they oohd and aahd and said how pretty it was and how much they loved it. They also promised not to tell their dad anything about it
It has a tulle bottom which isn't poofy, but has a LOT of material that is very thin. We are having a helluva time trying to figure out how to get rid of some so I can dance! It had to be trimmed shorter, so SD15 ended up sitting on the floor with the seamstress holding material while the seamstress cut. SD12 collected all the extra material so that we can use it with the bouquets or vases or something.
They seem to be very excited about the wedding. We are going to sit down as a family and look through the bands song list and pick some tunes. They were also looking into ways to have their hair done and they need to get shoes.
They seem to be happy about everything and they want to be involved. They seem eager to help; they were talking about how to keep SS5 and SS4 occupied during the ceremony. They are also thrilled that we are hiring a nanny so they won't be stuck on babysitting duty the whole night and can actually enjoy themselves.
All in all, they are handling everything really well. I'm glad they want to be involved and the bond we have formed. We went for starbucks smoothies and snacks after, and later in the evening, SD12 asked me to work on some piano duets with her. Let's hope everything doesn't get bumpy right before (or after) the wedding!

Well, that sounds just
Well, that sounds just awesome. This is the way it should be. This is something like my memories of my mother's wedding when I was 12. It was fun, the dresses, the dancing. Fun.
Contrast to my wedding SDthen13 we couldn't even get her to try on her own dress. Ignored the whole process aside from the random insult here and there. Weekend of went in to full "it's-all-about-me" mode. Behaved hideously at the wedding including hitting her brother and insulting me in the middle of the ceremony and I mean she was standing in front of everybody while I was giving her a Tiffany's necklace is when she insulted the gift and hit her brother, not like she was in the back somewhere in the crowd.
Maybe things will go well for you, Charlotte. This sounds just great.
