Uh oh, the graduation gift
You have to understand DH, he rarely comes directly at a situation, instead tries to approach it sideways or not at all.
So, SD23 is graduating college shortly.
When DH and I married, he asked me to agree to a rule that neither of us would spend more than $100 without consulting the other first. I think he got burned previously. I agreed.
Just yesterday DH brings up buying something and I remind him of that rule, and suddenly, he no longer wants that to be a rule!
Hmmm, why is that? I know why. SD23's college graduation is coming up and he wants to buy her something expensive without consulting me. (It is OUR money, joint account)
We shall see.

Aww, poor DH. Bless his heart
Aww, poor DH. Bless his heart that his rule is now an inconvenience for him.

can i bonk your dh on the forehead with my "Stupid" stamp?
NO, Mr. Elizabeth. no the rule stands, you dont get to decide that it shouldnt be a 'rule' if or when it applies to something for your rude-@$$ spawn! if he tries to pull that stunt, go out and buy something for YOURSELF that's WELL over 100.00 and see how he reacts...
Like a ... NEW CAR!!!!!

That's why we have, and will
That's why we have, and will always have, separate accounts.
One shared account for house expenses and that's it. He experienced my reaction to his use of the house account for some personal purchases shortly after we got it and he's not done it since. }:)
Exactly! We were able to have
Exactly! We were able to have the (sort of) adult discussion about this when it came to giving her money for a car and her high school graduation gift. I "guarantee" you she has asked him for something ridiculously expensive that I would not approve of. I'm sure he thinks he did not do "enough" for the car or high school. His will (from before we met) had him like giving her tens of thousands of dollars for these "life events."
Hell... even I know him well
Hell... even I know him well enough now, to know that this man will do what he wants when it comes to Precious SD, whether there is a rule, a law or an act of Congress! He's going to do what he wants.
