The Song Remains the Same

Well-seems as though SS16 is now "rewarded" with a later bedtime for his 1 hour of "consistent" mature behavior on the weekend(see Visiting the In-Laws blog)

DH deems SS16 has proven that he can
1. Get himself up (NOT)consistently
2. Hygene (DH came home at 10:15pm last night and had to yell at Zip to get in the shower he was supposed to be in at 9:30pm)consistently
3. Get himself to bed at a decent hour (I gave up and went to bed last night)

THEN DH announces to me before I head up that He and Zippy "discussed" the later time and they decided the new hour.

I stood there silent-calmly made point for point rebuttals to his parenting method-and that perhaps DH and his new "wife" Zippy, could handle some of the more pressing household issues (DH does not like this reference at all!).

At once, realizing the error of his ways and quickly backtracking, DH scurries downstairs to wonderful Zippy and comes up with plan B (more like BIG COMPRIMISE ON MY PART) (that WE discussed upstairs)-Zip gets to stay up later but no video games past 10pm-(gee -who is going to enforce that-NOBODY, because I am not!)

As an aside -it is exam week-Zip has been working, videoing and playing-NOT one book opened for study-

DH's response

"At 16 I cannot make him study, I will just have to see his marks"

We get them on Feb. 11-

It will be interesting...

Gotta tell ya, this WORKED with my DH....when he and adult SD 29 were planning events over the holidays, I told him I hoped he and his "new wife" had a great life together...

In addition, I told him that, as long as he and his "wife" were consulting on major decisions without my input, he and his "wife" could pay the bills (I actually contributed NOTHING that week to our account...), do the banking, work on the house, go on DATES, etc. etc.

Must have worked, because we haven't really heard too much of her "royal bossiness" of late. Face it, they know it's WRONG to put ANY relationship ahead of that which they have with their spouse...sometimes we just gotta POUND IT INTO THEIR THICK SKULLS and hope they GET IT before WE BOLT INTO THE SUNSET and leave their butts behind!! (with their "new wives", of course, to dry their TEARS!!)

How DH turns into a Caspar Milquetoast-namby, pamby pushover parent-

DH is a smart really nice guy until he sets eyes on SS16-then all bets are off in the common sense brain cell department

Must be a phenomena of some kind?

Virus maybe?

Suggestions of this lack of parenting disease and it's name?

how many of these dads are older? My DH had SD in his mid-30s. He's said before that he always wanted kids, but he had to wait so long, he was head-over-heels when she was born, since he waited he wanted to give her the world, blah, blah, blah. Now, he's a great parent in every way but discipline. When it comes to discipline, he wrings his hands and bleats out some excuse like a bashful sheep. He doesn't know what to do, so he does nothing. I was in my mid-20s when I started having kids. I don't know if I'm a more no-nonsense kind of parent because I started younger or if I'm just a better parent Wink

Anyway, I was just curious if age had anything to do with it, or if guilt parenting knows no age, race, color, creed, etc.

Was an older dad-BMother of the year (NOT with one failed kicked out daughter before Zippy) and DH decided to have invitro fertilization- and the product was Zippy-

SOOOO as you can imagine-Zippy has almost Divine status with Daddykins.
