Why must I hide everything?

EvilAngel's picture

I have a "Snack Bag" in our bedroom. It has chips and cookies and crackers in it. I would just leave them in the kitchen but if I ever want any of that to last beyond a week, I have to hide them. DH buys Thunderfoot the things that she asks for: Pop Tarts, Toaster Strudels, Ramon noodles, Doritos, tuna packets. That's usually what her list consists of. She will hide the Pop Tarts in her room for some reason. We don't eat them. And she takes the Doritos to her room. I don't care because I always get my own bag. She can devour 12 tuna packets in one week. I don't eat those either however if I did want one, I would eat it. I would NOT however eat the last one or the majority of them. And if I did, I would replace them. She does not have the ability to replace the things of mine that she decides she just wants to eat. So that is why I hide anything that I like. DH buys her sodas every now and again. She drinks them like water. She can go through a whole 12 pack of cans in 2 days. She asked for more the other day and DH told her no because she drinks too many. He bought her Kool Aid instead. She should never worry that I am going to drink that crap. I hate it. I don't drink the regular sodas either. I do usually buy 2 liters(diet) and one will last me a week. I keep them outside in the fridge in the garage. It looks like now I am going to have to start hiding those too. She has Kool Aid that she can make but she is too damn sorry to even do that! I had 2 Sprite Zeros in the fridge. I just went out to get a glass. One is completely gone and the other is 1/2 way gone. She knows that those are mine and I have asked her repeatedly to stop drinking all my sodas. She doesn't even like diet soda but rather than take the time to make HER Kool Aid, she drinks MY sodas. I am really getting tired of having to hide all my things. I guess I will just have to pretend I am living in a dorm and get a mini fridge for my bedroom. Sigh....

I hide everything in my bedroom closet. We locked our door. My SIL who has 3 older boys and a young daughter (all her bios) also locked up food in her bedroom.

I don't even care about sharing my stuff...it's just that she will eat ALL of it. And then she won't tell me or DH until one of us look for it. Then it's excuse after excuse. I hate that I have to hide ALL of my shit. If it were chocolate or something...I might get hiding that. But it's EVERYTHING! Right down to my shampoo and conditioner...it's that bad. Oh and tampons. Literally all of it....

It's that "if I want it I get it" attitude isn't it? Me, me and me.

It's why I had to put a lock on my makeup box and move some things (non-food thank goodness) to the bedroom. After more than a couple times saying, "Don't get into this it's not yours and here's why..." conversations and they just don't care.

I remember being told very, very specifically by mom/dad to NOT eat certain things and we most certainly would not or we'd end up buying the replacements or doing extra chores.

I hope this doesn't come to this with SD11 but it likely will as she eats chips like a vacuum (you know, she's not hungry for dinner but then DP will let her get a bag of chips an hour later). I did find one day my cheesy popcorn bag was empty (the giant size because we BOTH like it) and I wasn't happy, but then again, I left it out and didn't tell her not to finish it (it was HUGE!). And I've found more than one empty bag that used to contain chips stuffed in the back, upper cupboard. I got a little annoyed in front of DP about that because me peeve with cupboards/containers is, "...if it's empty DON'T PUT IT BACK THROW IT AWAY LAZY PEOPLE! The trash can is RIGHT THERE! You aren't hiding anything!"

She's FAMOUS for that! Her thing used to be Cheez-Its. She was constantly asking for them. DH looked in the pantry and there were 3 boxes of 1/2 full STALE (because she refuses to close a bag or box) Cheez-Its in there. He told her he wasn't buying more until she ate them. So now she doesn't like Cheez-Its anymore. I am tempted to just throw the damn Kool Aid away!

In my defense...the chips are pita chips because I like hummus! The cookies and crackers are for DHs lunch. The rest of that crap is shit he buys for her. I normally drink water or coffee or wine but every now and again I like my Sprite Zero. Please don't shoot me....

The funny thing is that I DON'T have to hide the pita chips and hummus. I just do anyway. She wouldn't TOUCH those! Oh she won't eat salads either because she doesn't like green things. My mom has often begged me to send Thunderfoot to her house for a while. It's funny because my mom puts up with NO SHIT and would eat that kid for lunch!

I am shocked she's not super overweight. She's not skinny but I wouldn't call her overweight. Kinda frumpy. She comes in from school and fixes spaghetti just about every day. That with 2 slices of bread with butter slathered all over it. Makes me sick. Then she will eat again if we happen to fix dinner. BUT she won't eat that much at dinner because she gorges herself when she gets home, then DH likes to think she's "picky". No she's not picky...she's a pig and she's already full from all the other crap she ate when she got home!

I was never allowed free range of anything I wanted either! And if I wanted a soda, my mom would buy me a 2 liter and tell me to make it last or I didn't get anymore.

I feel like it's going to come down to locks though.

I chain our second fridge closed and have the pantry in our room which is under lock and key. The kitchen fridge and shelves have food they can eat. I had the same problem of the skids scrambling 18 eggs eating less than a third of them, then tossing the rest. One day they cooked 5lbs of potatoes, burned them, then left the mess to set into concrete on the stove. Took days to get rid of the smell.

I lock my room just to take a shower so money and food don't go missing.

I would be LIVID if I caught her in our room! She had better NEVER let me catch her in there without one of us being in there. Nothing in there belongs to her!
I did help her get mashed potatoes started the other night because heaven forbid a 16 year old know how to do that! They were for HER, not me and not DH. Of course when I get up the next day, the mess is in the kitchen. I was HOT! I won't ever offer to help her fix anything again.

OMG! I think you are my HERO! I have never heard of that but I will be on the look out now! I might go grab some tomorrow!

HAHA! I just looked that up! I WILL be getting some of that tomorrow afternoon!!!

I like the way your kid thinks! My mom used to put epicac (sp?) in my dads vodka. It floated though and he saw it. That was an epic battle!

Miralax has no taste at all and dissolves quickly. It's what is used for bowel preps before colonoscopies!

I won't be buying any more sodas at all. If DH wants her to have them, he can buy them for her. I bought some MIO to flavor my water and that's all I need. She can't get that because it's in my purse.
