O/T: Meds and Wisdom Teeth Out

helena_brass's picture

Friday I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. It sucked, as expected, but no worse than that.

FDH had to work pretty far away and then pick up the kids on Friday, so my mother took me to the oral surgeon. I spent the night at my mother's house because I didn't want to move, let alone drive. I did drive the hour and a half back home Saturday morning, though I realized half-way through the drive that the meds were making me really sick.

I arrived home and the kids were there, playing on our new Nintendo Wii. FDH promptly took the kids outside to do yard-work so that I could get some rest. I couldn't really sleep though, and I felt weirdly energetic/anxious. I felt that way all weekend. I walked to the store twice, made breakfast, lunch and dinner (for me, FDH made solid food for the kids), hemmed my pants, painted my nails, decided to take up tea drinking and drank SEVERAL large pots, and finally got down to Costco to order new glasses. I have no idea if this is the meds or what. I've been sick to my stomach as well, and took a few naps.

The kids didn't really bother me, though they seemed to be driving FDH a little crazy. I can't tell if he was stressed more because he was worried about me, or if they were really pissing him off that much (FSD whined a lot about the yard work, and FSS whined a lot about losing to FSD on the wii games). On a side note, this drop off was the first time that BM didn't try to run up to my car immediately when we pulled up. Woohoo, finally!

I'm at work today and staring at the screen is making me feel dizzy. I thought about taking the day off, but I was so up and about this weekend that I didn't feel justified in taking a day to "rest." What is wrong with me??? Sorry, ugh. Totally discombobulated.

Probably the meds, but anesthesia can do a number on you, too. Were you put under for the extraction?

I was put under, but I've been under before and never had this kind of reaction. I agree, I think it's the meds.

Thank you Echo! I did take half a pill this morning (it says 1 half tablet-1 whole tablet every four hours when needed), but the pain today was significantly less than this weekend. I think I am ready to throw those pills away. I think it's the stitches coupled with the soreness that is hurting me (I think I chew my cheeks in my sleep--not good right now). I will try the Tylenol instead.

Pain meds (opiates) will make you feel nauseated and dizzy, but can also make you feel more active than usual. But if you're pretty much done with the pain meds at this point then those feelings should go away.
