Christmas Party, part 2
SD61 was here today to cut DH's hair. She was stressing about the food for her Christmas party next week. She had an elaborate chicken, mashed potato, green bean casserole + more menu she was stressing about. I suggested the open house format which she'd already adopted and discussed the number of guests, now up to 17. She had been talking about setting up a table for people to sit down and eat but there will be no room.
I urged her to change to a "finger food" buffet menu and she understood. She seemed relieved and started ruminating about it. I could see this going the same way as the former menu with the repetition, elaboration and confusion. I got a piece of paper and pen and urged her to write down what she was having and what she'd need. It was all I could do not to write it down myself but I didnt.
She's doing ok so far. One good thing, she won't need a big cleaning marathon because shes usually a meticulous housekeeper. Fingers crossed for now. I thanked her repeatedly and emphasized that we are TOO OLD to do it anymore. Lol.
She's happy that she is fulfilling her daughter's wish and they are communicating. And, it was kind of poignant when she said if it went well, maybe people will come over.
I'm trying to tamp down any expectations, I've been sorely disappointed many times. But, so far, so good.
