Freaking seriously??

So today we had a business lunch. All sales force one restaurant, company pays for lunch and we have a working lunch. Nice little italian restaurant. There is literally a group of 20 of us so we are in a back room. I get up halfway through lunch walk to the bathroom and literally stop in front of a table that skid2 and BM mother are sitting at.

I thought both were going to shit themselves.
Skid2 is supposed to be at school.
He definately left the house to get on the bus this morning.

I asked if his father knew he wasn't at school (maybe he got sick and DH had grandma pick him up??)
Nope. Dad thinks I am at school.

Grandma wanted to spend time with me. (Mind you, the kids are supposed to be spending this 3 day weekend with BM parents... and just spent an overnight with them last weekend)

I collected the child and left grandma sitting there alone. He got to sit at the table while we all had fattening italian food and I ordered him a PB&J with milk. (I was really tempted to be mean and order the spinich salad, that kid hates spinich). I texted DH told him I had skid2 and would call him after lunch.

We are back at my office now. I sat him in the corner. I cannot even look at this child let alone talk to him.

I emailed DH to let him know what was going on. And texted him to check his email. He texted saying he would be here in 20 minutes to collect the truant.

WTF!!!

Am I totally out of line in thinking that if Grandma is sneaking the kids out of school and/or enticing them to skip that they should NOT be going to her house this weekend? I really think GRANDMA needs to be grounded as badly as skid2. She is 'the adult' and SHOULD know better!!!

Skid2 is 17 years old and in high school. He will be 18 in less than 2 weeks and is in his senior year.

He is old enough to know he is supposed to be in school... I guarantee you granny was going to drop him off in time for DH to 'pick him up from band practice' or for him to attend band practice since the kid lives and breathes marching band.

I utterly agree grandma was in the wrong.. but so was the kid and he IS old enough to know better. He chose poorly. And yes, that means I saw a 17 year old young man in a corner to sulk until his daddy picked him up. If his 15 year old brother is smart enough to know 'If I ditch school I get in trouble' the 17 year old should know the same.

And.. grandma isnt on the sign out list. She picked him up from the bus stop.

Which means if he skips enough school DH could be jailed.

Now, if at 18 he wants to pull on his big boy britches and move out like skid1 did.... have at it. Like her he will be back inside of 9 months with an attitude adjustment after real life drop kicks him a few times.

DH won't threaten to divorce me. Even when things were at their worst he never threatened that- I am sure because he figured the minute the word came out of his mouth I would file and save myself a ton of $$ by not helping to support his kids.

DH has come a LONG way in a little over a year. That boy is NOT going to be happy for awhile I am sure. I don't know what it is with these kids... they hit 'Teen' and lose their effing minds!!!!

Granted mine were not angels, but they knew the difference between "ok I might get in trouble for this" and "No, not doing it. Mom will kill me." and used common sense! Both of my kids are still alive so obviously they did not choose poorly ALL the time especially on key issues!
