O/T Car Accident

KiFire's picture

I was just driving along, and someone who was too damned eager for their Dunkin' Donuts took the left too soon and hit my rear wheel. Instead of hitting the breaks, they continued to make the turn, catching my bumper with theirs and pulling it halfway off.

Now, I'm 25, I've had a few cars -all beaters, this is my brand-new car, I bought it in April. I've put 14,000 miles on it, just to give you an idea of my driving habits. I blow through 20-30,000 miles a year, and I've literally never been in an accident before. Thank god I was on my way to get BS and he wasn't in the car, and it was the ass-end of my car so I wasn't hurt. Dude pulls up next to me, asks if I'm okay, I ask for his info and he waits expectantly for me to provide him with something to write with. I'm all shaken up so I do it, I don't call the cops because we aren't hurt, he gives me a phone number and his name.

Thank god he's going to BSs school to pick up his own kid, I get his plate number and try to get more info out of him, he won't tell me his license number or his address, or his insurance co. I call him a few hours later and demand that info, I get the company name, his address, and his license number. He 'can't get' his policy number, w/e dude. File a police report call the insurance companies.

Joy of joys his insurance company can't come out to 'inspect' my car until the 30th! Sooo... Merry Christmas, have fun driving to other states with your bumper hanging off. Just, ugh.. I can't seem to catch a break from life, who hits a car that isn't moving in a line of traffic? How does he mis-judge that? All he had to do was swing wider, or fucking stop once he hit me, not keep going and rip my bumper off.

How annoying!! The best thing is that you're okay. Sorry about the hassle with the insurance co. Sad

I work for a Plaintiff's law firm. Always, ALWAYS get a police report. Without it, even though the other guy was at fault, his insurance company can deny the claim as there is no "proof" that he was at fault.

I'm glad you're okay. So sorry about your car.

I would have called the police right there if he had refused to give me his information. Plus then they would have also ticketed him.
