ADHD
I told my DH that I think SD10 has ADHD. He agreed that she probably did (bio mom has adhd). She can't stop moving. If she does manage to sit still she starts humming and singing. At School she interrupts, does not wait her turn. She told me she feels like she can't keep up in school. When I talked to her teacher she told me the reason she is behind is not an issue of not understanding the material. It's a focus issue. SD does not get started until the work time is halfway over. So by the time worktime is over, she the one who did not finish.
We have her secheduled for an evaluation.
do any of you have experience with this ? If so what symptoms did your kids have and treatments have type found most effective? What sorts of changes did you see after treatment began?

I've been in the child mental
I've been in the child mental health field for 30 years. ADHD is very treatable and the most successful treatment is medication. Usually stimulant medication- there are other medications that aren't stimulants, but for the most part, those work the best. If stimulants work, you will know right away - she will be calmer, less active and more able to sit still and focus in school. Often people want to avoid medication, but it really is safe and it's the most effective way to help her.

Just wanted to echo what the others have said. I was diagnosed with adhd a few years back. I think I have a mildish case of adhd but it definately made life more difficult in many ways. My family was really big on sports though so I was always exercising and doing sports which probably did help a lot with the adhd, it helps to focus the brain.
I started taking aderall when I was diagnosed and it definately helped. It clears the brain of the background chatter and can help focus on one thing at a time. It did feel strange at first but I soon got used to it.
I wish I had been diagnosed earlier as I think that it would have made a big difference to have taken medication earlier in my life and also to have explainations for all the diverse odd things about me that I can now put down to adhd symptoms. I would say that getting some practical therapy/coaching along with the medication is my next step as I think that will also help me a lot. I do think that there is a lot of strategies to learn and that medication while very effective will not fix everything.
