One Down, One to Go (And One that will NEVER Grow Up)
Well, OSS is moved into college. He got his license just before heading off, and he is getting interviews set up for a job on campus. He wants to do well, and he is itching for that freedom. He apparently had enough credits that he is technically a sophomore. Combine that with having his first year entirely paid for with grants and scholarships, and I'm very proud of what he has accomplished!
YSS is back to his old shenanigans when it comes to school. He's two weeks in and already failing two classes (while acing the others). He's smart, and he enjoys his "career classes" that he's taking. But subjects he has no interest in? Yeah, those are a struggle. I'm going to watch and see how this goes.
Now onto Eternal Teenager. She called DH over the weekend and asked if we could get YSS to school this week since both her vehicles are broke down and the only vehicle they have is the motorcycle. Her DH apparently is begging hia family for the cash to fix the truck.
Classic Eternal Teenager. Buy a toy versus putting money into savings, and continue to be a "SAHM" (which you're kinda failing at if your kid is schooling from home most days and is already failing his classes) versus getting a job. It's not like she hasn't been told of several places she could apply that would require nearly no physical labor that would give her full-time employment and benefits. Or, she could work Shipt or Instacart since the virus doesn't scare her and bring in cash while remaining flexible with her days.
But, all of that would require her to grow up, and we can't have that, can we? Nope! So, while BM is sitting at home today with nothing to do, DH and I are juggling meetings and work in order to get YSS back and forth to school last-minute. I wouldn't mind if BM were pulling her weight, but she's even lazier now that she has a man than she was before.
Four more years. Just four more years.

You are ringing my memory bell
Our BM was a SAHM, too. Ok, when you have kids there, that's valid. But when your kids are living full time with their dad and SM, does that still make you a SAHM? I never understood why she preferred to live in poverty rather than work. Oh, I forgot, she did work as a bartender for a few weeks then later worked at a cleaners for about a month. All the rest of the time, she was manipulating money out of her eventual second husband after she finished manipulating DH. She was an attractive woman with a witty personality. She would have made money as a waitress or in any type of hospitality business. I never understood it.
But, in any event, congratulations on the successful lsunch!
I can do you one better.
I can do you one better. After the Beast lost custody of her kids, she still referred to herself as a "single mom." Yep, even in court documents related to the endless number of times we had to drag her ass into court for non-payment of support. The first time she tried that crap in person in front of the Referee, he just looked at her and said "you don't have custody and you have no parenting time. How on EARTH are you a single "mom?"
Of course, crickets from the Beast I had to stifle my laughter so as not to be tossed out of the courtroom
I think people just get used
I think people just get used to using it as an excuse. I met a guy once who kept using the fact that he was a single dad as an excuse for everything. When i asked how old his children were, he told me 29, 31, and 35. They all lived in other states!
A single stay at home mom
A single stay at home mom whose kids are never with her is just, like, unemployed. A loafer, or a layabout. Or the best is when they work like 6 hours a week, kids always at dad's, collect CS, and brag about being a single, career woman who is doing it all and congratulate themseves on Father's Day too!
