OT: Got myself a personal trainer...

lieutenant_dad's picture

I'm committed (at least financially) to a personal trainer for the next year.

I'm tired of being flabby. I'm tired of some of the health issues coming from my poor eating and lack of activity. And, overall, I'm just tired.

Had my first session yesterday. Arms and shoulders are getting more sore by the nanosecond. I discovered how grossly out of shape I was after struggling with girl push-ups.

Any advice? Words of encouragement? Sibling-in-arms who is right there with me? I'm paying a small fortune for the privilege to have someone else kick my rear end.

For those who have had a trainer before, did you continue after you ended your relationship with them? Did you feel more knowledgeable or skilled after? I'm hoping at the end of this that I'll be better able to put together my own workouts that are more effective than what I've done in the past.

Never had a trainer but I feel flabby too these days. I wish I had the money to have someone else kick my butt in gear.

Best of luck and you will do great. Just remember they are there to be tough at times but they are helping you be a better you.

I got roped into a fitness challenge at work. It's for three weeks at a local gym and if our team, the (not so) Skinny Minnie's wins, then we get $500.00. I turned down Halloween cookies yesterday and only ate 2 bite size candies from BS7 treats last night instead of the usual 10 or so. lol

I already exercise quite a bit, but would really like to commit to a healthier diet. You can't out-train a bad diet, and when you're 46 it starts catching up to you. Ugh.

I know I won't stay with this gym when the challenge is over because I think their rates are really high (160.00 a month) and would rather join a different gym closer to my house anyway that would be more convenient.

I had a physical trainer for a while in my late 20s, he wasn't too expensive and was awesome.
I was in super good shape for sure, and loved working out on my own with personal goals. I am a good weightlifter and he and another trainer were like, "Have you considered competing...?" Um, no.

My only issue was with the restrictive diet. I got down to a reasonable weight and my body was like, NOPE. Not gonna go ANY lower, that's that. He was considering giving me a strict weightlifter diet but you know what? I love food.

I'm not fat, but I have a lot of muscle compared to average women - always have. I've never been skinny. I look great in yoga clothes, but struggle sometimes with "real" clothes as my legs aren't skinny (I ride a bike 70 miles a week, walk and do yoga). I just remain very picky with clothing style.

The point is stick with it. Keep moving. You will look good, You will FEEL good. Don't live by the scale (I don't look like what I weigh) but how strong you are and how long you can exercise without stopping. Choose food wisely and healthily, have a day in which you can eat what you want.

You will be sore and tired and it's all for the better! You won't be for long!

My DH has personal trainer. He plans on working with him for about a year and then use the knowledge and do it by himself. I went to one session with DH and boy the guy kicked my butt lol It’s not cheap. But it does make a difference if you are determined. I personally just don’t have the time

His trainer isn’t hot though lol he is this short small bold guy, he is good though
