UPDATE Geneticist

So turns out the urgency is that for an amnio (sample of the amniotic fluid) it is the safest between 16 and 20 weeks. That is why there is urgency with with getting me in. Now on the other hand no they cannot test for autism. However, autism usually comes with a chromosome disorder/fragile X so they can test for those. Basically I went there got blood work as a safety precaution. The doctor is confident that the autism in my family is from neither one of those. She is also confident because there was not physical defects in my brothers and sisters that it is more of a environment cause for them not as much as a full blown genetic cause. This makes my chances lower but still a concern which is why I was sent. I guess autism can come with certain physical traits this is something I did not know! I personally see a likeness between my autistic siblings and my non so I found that very interesting. Anyways it was strictly a shot in the dark. The doctor explained to us this would by no means lead them to a place where they could tell me nay or yay. I however realize the validity behind early intervention for developmental disabilities in all of their forms so we went ahead with the blood work.

Fingers crossed that everything goes well for you and baby!!

I'm happy that you actually have doctors that care though! When I was pregnant with BS1, my first prenatal appointment was my GP with his nose in a macbook and 20 minutes in decides to ask me,"wait, are you pregnant?" :jawdrop:
Then he claimed to send both of my IPS tests to my OB/GYN which he never did, so I could have been totally unprepared for a child with Downs Syndrome, thankfully that was not the case. But needless to say I found myself a new GP!
