Contact my BD's 'REAL' BF before DH adopts her.... Advice!!

MrsDaisaku's picture

Okay, so this is a slightly different one to post about. Not directed to my Step Kids, but to do with my own BD.

Background: I got pregnant young and told the BF that she was his, he did the whole 'its not mine', 'you've been sleeping around', 'you're trying to trap me' bullsh*t. So i went away and told had my BD without him. I saw him from time to time and would speak to him and try and persuade him to have a DNA test, and he would point blank refuse. He's not the best person in the world, far from it and not someone that I would choose to be the father of my child (My DH is however).

So seven year later, i am now married and for three years my DH has been her Daddy. But before he officially adopts her, should i contact the BF and try one last time?? There is nothing legally connecting him to her, so that would not be a problem. The problem i foresee is when she reaches late teens and starts to ask questions, i want to know that i did everything i could before letting my DH adopt her. She knows no different now, but with age comes comprehension.

Any feedback or different thoughts on this is most welcome!!

No name on the birth cert, hes never met her and hes never paid anything. Hes a stranger as far as shes concerned.

No need to consult lawyers as he has no legal right atm without a DNA tast. Thankyou for your feedback.

I definitely agree with that. I like to cover all basis, this was why i wanted some outside feedback. Thank you.

I think legally, you have to put a notice in the local newspaper from where the BF is from for a certain amount of time, notifying him that the child is going to be adopted.

IF it has been a certain lengthy period of time (Which i'm sure varies from state to state) that the BF has had zero contact (by choice of himself) with the child, then he's automatically given up the right as a parent. It shouldn't be too hard to prove if it's been years (which is the case with my own BD & her pathetic sperm donor of a BF)...

Thankyou for that, but i'm from the UK, so the law works differently here. Smile I call him Sperm donor too.

Oh...yeah. Well, that's just for Utah specifically, so I'm sure the UK is totally different. I tried Smile Good luck!!
