OT - Chiropractic care

DH saw a Chiropractor last week. He's been on Cloud 9. Feels great, etc etc. His hip was shattered years ago and he's uncomfortable lately and this seems to have helped him tremendously. So he's encouraged me to go too. I have lower back pain often. I had an issue when during labor with BS19 and during delivery heard a loud pop from my tailbone. Ever since I have dealt with back pain. It comes and goes but I can aggravate it easily. I went to a Chiropractor many years ago but found the relief to be very temporary.

So anyway..DH had an appointment yesterday and I met him up there to have my own appointment. I was very nervous about it only because I was worried about aggravating my back. When I do this, I'm in A LOT of pain.

I gave the Chiropractor my history and my session began. Lots of cracking and popping. The sound is like fingers down a chalkboard for me. I don't even like hearing when other people crack or pop their bones, neck, etc. So I wasn't too happy when he popped my neck. I wasn't hurting but the noise. I was just like OMG I cannot do this!

So this morning I feel okay, I little popping sounds from my neck and lower back. And a little stiff which is to be expected. But I am just not on board with this. DH acts like he's in heaven and doesn't seem to understand my resistance. I'm just so paranoid of hurting myself and if I do I am miserable.

Any thoughts or experiences with Chiropractic care?

My parents and son love the chiropractor, they swear it alleviates everything. Me I have tried and it just doesn't help. I think I am to tense of a person, they would pop things back into place and then within a day it would all go back and I would be back to square one.

Yeah...I'm thinking DH is probably just in bad shape lol. I'm a lot more limber than he is. So I'm happy he's getting some relief I'm just not really feelin' it.

Never used one but I do love physical therapists. They really know their stuff and work with you on long term solutions and are amazing at diagnosing the root of any problem I have gone to them with.

I see a chiropractor once a week. It helps me tremendously. I understand your trepidations with having your back and neck cracked. You have to be very careful with who you seem. It is possible for a chiropractor to herniate discs. The chiropractors I have seen for the last 5 years practice network spinal analysis. They do not crack my back at all. It actually trains your spine over time to align itself, making you less likely to get subluxations. I like this practice a lot because you're helping your body to take care of itself in the long run versus needing to be cracked by a person to feel relief. My posture is better and if I do tweak a muscle at the gym I recover much faster.

I love chiropractor care and what it does for me. I don't have to use it year round, just when I'm in trouble sort of speak...I did extensive PT for my broken leg recovery, and think they are awesome for rehabilitation.   Now, some people prefer major back surgery and pain meds for life...just not my thing :)

My DH is disabled due to multiple back issues, and his lumbar section is a right mess. Conventional chiro treatment could actually cause more damage. Instead, he sees a chiropractor who specializes in disc pump therapy. The emphasis is on spreading the vertebrae properly apart to reestablish healthy blood flow, and it's terrific. While the doctor can do an adjustment,  often it isn't necessary. We've referred several friends to this doctor, and they've had good results. One of my friends was told by her M.D. she had carpal tunnel in both wrists and needed surgery. Nope, just needed some work done on her neck.

Telling you the good vs the bad.  PT trys to strength the mussels around the injury area to help ease the pain.
I really don't know anything about chiropractor's.  But MD never send patients to a chiropractor. Maybe because they own the PT places ?   If you really have a back injury then surgery is the real only answer.
But all I get when I asked about surgery is you will feel better. Not that you will be without pain.
unfortunately once broken it's really broken.

insurance company's normal only paid for X number of visits. To both   There were people going to both Chiro and PT for years and years. So insurance company stop the life time patients

I have been to one good chiro, that an orthopedic surgeon recommended. He did help relieve pain, but could not "repair" my problem, nor did he ever suggest that he could.

I have also been to two "bad ones". Maybe, "don't agree with" is more friendly. They both felt very snake oil salesman-y. I just do not believe a chiro can help liver function or get your lymphatic system functioning more efficiently or similar.

Personally, I have gotten better relief from a (good) massage therapist.

I never went to a chiropractor until after the birth of MrBoy4. I could not turn my neck or twist my upper body. My first adjustment was horrific. She snapped my neck and it was so loud and painful, I cried. She could only do one side, had to return for the other a week later.
It was VERY painful but the relief was noticeable. I don't go as often as I should but I always feel better after.

It puzzles me that I was so flexible up until age 40 and my last birth and now I get stiff necks and sore backs.  I do have to keep going back though, it won't resolve on its own.
