Divorce...SD's social media comments about me...

Olivia2020's picture

I moved out 6 weeks ago and DH filed for the divorce the week after.

SD24 was 'DaughterWife' that lived with us and treated me like dirt (when she wasn't ignoring me) and DH would do nothing as they are a 'bonded pair' to say the least. Emotional incest, enmeshment plus physical intimacy and his anger that drove me to leave. Of course DW is protective of daddyyyyy and her 20yo sister follows her lead. They pretend to listen to daddy because he has the finances to provide for their lifestyles and with no boundaries, they do as they please.

SD24 lives on social media...she prides herself in 'ganging up' on people that she doesn't like and would brag about what she's done in the past to 'destroy people.'

I realize they are 'adults' over 18 yrs of age, he is not on social media at all and has no idea how it works.

Is there any way, legal or otherwise, that they can stop posting rude comments about me on their social media? I am not connected to them on social media. A couple weeks ago, my co-worker wanted to see pics of DW and found her on Twitter (they don't know, but I don't have Twitter) and scrolled to see 'tweets' and 'retweets' by DW. My co-worker showed me ugly comments that DW posted several times since I left the hell in that house. Co-worker is calling it defamation of character and bullying.

I hold a professional license and there are people and places where we could all cross paths around here...we all live within 3 hours of each other.

One of my biggest regrets is NOT saying things/calling it as it is...to those daughters. I was far kinder and nicer to them than any other woman would be in my position.

What are your thoughts/ideas/comments?

I never have been connected to any of them on social media. My colleague wanted to see what DW looked like and saw the comments.

Print them all out.  Hire a layer to send a cease and desist letter including them.  If she continues there will be legal consequences.  Of course only do this if the lawyer agrees laws have been broken but you might have to go this far to protect your career.

Survivingstephell is absolutely right.

A good solicitor may find numerous categories that could possibly be explored.

No one has the right to cause this much upset to someone be it directly or indirectly.  These appear to be repeated incidents that show no signs of stopping.

Congratulations on getting out of that situation!  Not to pour cold water on the legal redress idea, and maybe your laws are different than in the UK where I live, but a few years ago I sought legal advice because of getting stalked on the internet by someone.  She'd never met me, but she lifted a load of photos from my family's Facebook pages (not mine which was locked down tight)  and started posting them all over the place with very nasty remarks.   I tried the legal avenue but partly because she lived in a different country, it wasn't possible.  Even if she'd been here here would have been a limited amount the law could do unless she specifically threatened my life, despite our strong harrassment and recent new stalking laws.

My advice to you is that the best way of getting such a person to stop is actually to ignore them and get on with your life.  Believe me, I tried fighting, but any attention makes this kind of behaviour worse.  She was even phoning us in the middle of the night on our landline which is for my husband's business.  We had to unplug the phone at night. However after about 18 months it stopped, thank goodness - she just wasn't getting the satisfaction.

It stinks you had to go through this and glad you found a solution that worked out.  I don't look at her social media stuff and don't care about her, her opinions do not count and my friend/colleague was more interested that I was. I was just asking the question and fogetting about it now.

I was stationed in Germany for 7 years and loved visiting the UK!

Thanks a bunch ;-)
